It hardly feels real but it’s finally done! Thank you to everyone who came to my defense and all who watched remotely I could never have anticipated there would be so many! What an [adjective] time that was. I couldn’t have asked for better than the @ToBoLab

New #OA paper out! A @JoshuaCopus joint: are #mesophotic reef fish populations older / more stable than shallow? Our phylogeographic survey of deep-reef squirrelfishes & soldierfishes suggests not. mdpi.com/1424-2818/14/8/691/…

New snapper just dropped! And it's named after our own Brian Bowen (the Bo part of the lab name, don't ya know)! Congrats to the coauthors (of whom I think only @irichthyology is on twitter) and to Brian! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

Red Sea fishes are the best. Here's another masked puffer (Arothron diadematus). This one is from Egypt.
I'm on the mood for a #PrettyFish day today, and you know me, when it comes to pretty fishes I think nothing beats the Red Sea. First up, Chaetodon austriacus. #ichthyology

I've stayed mum through #FreshVsSaltyFish so far, but on today's theme of #beauty, I feel compelled to throw up these gorgeous Hawaiian endemics. Chaetodon tinkeri (1) and Pseudanthias hawaiiensis (2,3) are residents of deeper reefs >30m depth and are absolute stunners.

This #AlohaFriday we wanted to commemorate our "Bridge to Nowhere" which is now more like a few steps... This bridge previously was a walkway to a processing building when Moku o Loʻe was a hub for a tuna fishery. Thanks to Chris Suchocki of the @ToBoLab for the shots!

Yesterday on a bay of glass, we were fortunate to catch some of our local mantas (Mobula alfredi) and a large school of ‘ōpelu (Decapterus macarellus) feasting upon the abundant plankton.

Excitement at the beach house during a past ToBo gathering.
The "beach house" as we lovingly call this space has hosted many gatherings of scientists, community members, friends, and family from near and far over the years. Do you have a special memory here? While we can't gather in this place now, we can share it virtually 💙
