Timing is everything. Starting to find fields with spotty pollination on the bottom 1/3 of ears. My theory: rapid GDU accumulation leading up to pollination pushed early silk emergence. Those bottom silks grew long, then were covered by the top silks, preventing pollination
Corn-belt GDUs have been extreme.
111 RM in western Iowa, planted 4-18-26, is full R5 on 7-29-26. 101 days.
High GDU moves crop faster. Shortens grain fill. Less grain. Hello Chicago?
