Nog steeds worden 3 tot 4 boerderijen aangevallen elke week in Zuid-Afrika. Iedereen die ontkent dat er een probleem is die is blind of heeft malafide bedoelingen.
FARM ATTACK: Another South African farmer attacked and brutally tortured on his farm this week.
Cattle farmer, Donovan Marx, from the North West province, had his ears cut off on Wednesday morning during a farm attack.
He was also shot in the shoulder and stabbed (with a sharp object) in the leg.
And, for the umpteenth time, as far as I can determine, not a single article on any English media platform about it. This gross coverage disparity between the Afrikaans and English media when it comes to farm murders is what makes it possible for so many politicians and commentators to get away with their disgusting farm murder denialism.
You know what's even more infuriating? History and research shows, if the victim was black and the torturers were white, we would see this story on every front page and news channel for weeks. Debates, panel discussions, political party statements - the works! The president would even come out and condemn the attack.
Again, I refuse to accept the twisted, psychopathic standard that dismisses a farmer having his ears cut off as "just normal crime."

Dit is ongelooflijk triest...Bpost is officieel bijna een centjesaandeel.
In 2018 was bpost nog een bedrijf met een beurswaarde van 7 miljard euro. Vandaag is het 51% belang van de Belgische overheid nog amper 100 miljoen euro waard op de beurs.
De cijfers bij bpost (tegenwoordig noemt het Bnode) liegen niet:
- bpost is zijn kranten en tijdschrift contract verloren aan concurrentie => deel omzet is weg
- Daarnaast dalen de brievenpost volumes met 10% per jaar => omzet staat structureel onder druk
- Personeel heeft veel vaste contracten, maar steeds minder werk => vaste kosten blijven daardoor hoog terwijl omzet daalt
- Sinds overname Radial in 2017 heeft bpost geen nettokaspositie meer, tegenwoordig wel een forse schuldenberg van 1,75 miljard euro. Er is daardoor geen geld meer om cadeaus uit te delen
- Afgelopen twee jaar was bpost/bnode verlieslatend, een verlies van een kwart miljard euro in de afgelopen twee jaar spreekt boekdelen.
- Vakbonden staken nu al 3 weken =>dat zet het vertrouwen in de dienstverlening van bpost verder onder druk net als de toekomstige omzet.
Helaas kan je geen structureel verlieslatend bedrijf blijven runnen zonder ingrepen. Dat de vakbonden nu al 3 weken staken in Wallonië (begin deze week maar 8% Waalse postbodes aan het werk volgens De Tijd) helpt het probleem alvast niet vooruit.

This is the desire of the so-called conservative to simply "work" rather than do all the other things that keep entropy at bay and ensure things function. Their doing so left open the field to the worst among us: spiteful malcontents

The planters of the Virginia gentry served as vestryman, justice, militia officer and burgess, usually before he turned thirty and usually for no pay, other than perhaps having some travel expenses covered as a burgess.
It was expected of him, and he expected it of himself: as a man whose success made him privileged, he was duty-bound to be the one to show up and lead
That habit can come back. It ought come back. It starts with showing up to the boring meeting, and being the sort of man to whom others listen. The sort of man whose reputation for success and competence, and cultivated but not overdone and always aesthetically pleasing look makes others want to follow him
This is what the great men we look back to did, and is indeed what their whole soceity was geared toward producing: great men who were great leaders at every level of civic life, from the humblest station at the bottom to the greatest at the top
Re-engaging in that way will be critical if we are to retake our country.

🇫🇷 France is burning, and it’s spreading. 1,300+ arrests in a single weekend. Town halls torched. Thousands of shops looted. Police battling protesters in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Bordeaux and Nice.
The media called it “mostly peaceful.” I was on the ground the crowd was made up of Unions, students, communists and the hard left marching side by side, and when the march ended, a completely different crowd stayed behind to fight the police
Two weeks in, and protests are starting to spread across Europe. Could this happen in the UK? I don’t think we’re there yet. But this is a warning for all of Europe.

Vandaag in DeTijd, een artikel over Izycoffee. Een koffieketen ontstaan in mijn thuisstad, met een zeer ambitieuze zaakvoerder die er een grote keten van wou maken. Ik vond dat altijd een bijzonder verhaal. Dure koffie, in een nuchter West-Vlaams stadje, waar de passage tijdens de week beperkt is en een euro nog vaak eens wordt omgedraaid? Veel volk zat daar nooit, ik kon het dan ook niet linken aan de succesgeluiden in de media.
Toen de keten steeds verder expandeerde en ik eigenlijk ook in andere vestigingen niet zoveel volk zag, dan toch maar eens die cijfers gaan bekijken. Wat mis ik hier?
Kijk, je moet weten, boekhouden is geen exacte wetenschap, het resultaat is op een bepaald moment wel wat stuurbaar. Een kost die een investering wordt, wat schuiven in de tijd, afschrijvingsritme wat veranderen. Er zit wat marge op.
Een boekhouder kan dus altijd wat make-up aanbrengen, maar teveel make-up is op de duur ook een rode vlag. Wat wil je verbergen?
Één snelle blik op de jaarrekening van Izycoffee en er kleefde al make-up aan mijn vingers. Kijk even mee naar de laatste editie. Bijna 1M aan oprichtingskosten en jaar op jaar stijgend. Voor de niet-boekhouders, in de praktijk zal je zelden een bedrag tegenkomen in deze rubriek, meestal worden deze uitgaven direct in kost genomen en niet als investering aangeduid. Wat kan je trouwens hebben als oprichtingskosten als je weet dat je inrichtingskosten van iedere nieuwe vestiging al in andere categorie activa zit? Een zeer dubieuze post al als eerste regel van de balans. Want door een pak kosten als oprichtingskosten aan te duiden, kan je ze afschrijven over meerdere jaren ipv direct voor 100% in min van het resultaat te moeten leggen.
Moest ik bankier zijn, ik trek deze uitgaven zelf af in mijn analyse van het resultaat en kijk dan eens. Dan zou resultaat heel anders geweest zijn de laatste jaren. Van nipt (hoe toevallig) winstgevend tot diep verlieslatend.
Toen ik het een paar jaar geleden opmerkte, had ik al een slecht voorgevoel. En kijk zo geschiedde, de keten is failliet, sleurt een pak crowdlenders mee en ook een pak belastinggeld. (Why, PMV, why?)
Mits een zekere grens aan publiek kapitaal zou een revisor misschien wel op zijn plaats zijn om dit soort boekhoudkundige ongein te doorprikken. Wanneer gaat een laagje make-up over tot misleiden?
Het ironische is dat Izycoffee in zijn laatste jaarrekening neergelegd in juli 2026, nog van mening was dat het een vennootschap in continuïteit was. Het tegendeel zou hen boekhoudkundig verplichten diezelfde oprichtingskosten direct af te boeken en dus in kost te nemen. Dat werd toen niet gedaan. Een paar maand later bleek de vennootschap een stil faillissement doorlopen te hebben...
