The Tigray war takes a familiar pattern. Anyone who followed the last Tigray war (2020 - 2022) will notice that the current conflict is remarkably similar. But aspects of this war are also very different. martinplaut.com/2026/10/21/t…

But what if it wasn't simply the actions of a few? As the BBC has reported, the inquiry has heard allegations of senior officers obstructing investigations, evidence being withheld and millions of files 'regrettably' not handed over. After a pattern, this feels systemic.

Good piece here. US Is bombing Somalia, without an articulated explanation or much effectiveness. Also worth noting that while increasing airstrikes on Somalia, the Trump admin has also sought to deport Somali immigrants living in the US.

Trump more than any of his predecessors has consistently launched airstrikes on a country he purports to care nothing about and without any obvious goal. lrb.co.uk/blog/2026/septembe…

How the war on terror is still being fought at home: "I don't think we've really reckoned with that history enough," @rozina_ali tells me on @PodcastNOTA. "We also haven't reckoned with the fact that there has been no end to this war. It's actually become a permanent feature of American life. "A lot of the policies, a lot of the war powers, a lot of the structures and laws that allow prosecutors to charge someone with terrorism, all of these remain in place. "So what does it actually mean to be 25 years after the war on terror? When does this war end?"

Is London quietly abandoning its decades-long policy of minimum nuclear deterrence? In @BulletinAtomic, @CSERCambridge director S.M. Amadae and Tom Stevenson (@TomFStevenson) argue that the UK is pivoting toward a highly destabilizing "war-fighting" posture. 🧵 (1/)

Bond vigilantes have repeatedly told @bankofengland that its aggressive QT actions were increasing Bailey premium. the Bank's response was to stop asking them! @adam_tooze @AndyBurnhamGM

Bank of England was until recently largest holder of gilts. It's been aggressively selling for no good reason other then Bailey wants to. We have a Bailey premium on gilts nobody talks about
