Herts County Council's Conservative cabinet have just confirmed their decision to make it more difficult and more expensive to introduce 20mph speed limits. That will not only mean fewer safe roads but will waste money that could be better spent on other things.

It's great to see this. Can Royston do the same?

What's more: if drivers don’t obey a 20mph speed limit then the limit will be increased. How does this make our streets safer for walkers and cyclists, as the Local Transport Plan requires?
Herts County Council's Highways panel is discussing plans that will make it harder to introduce 20mph speed limits. This is the wrong thing to do.

Have you noticed how beautiful the planters look in #Royston? The planters are now stocked with autumnal plants, hopefully something to brighten your day during lockdown. @NorthHertsDC @Roystontown

So we've reached the point of Brexit where the Government tells schools to stock up on long life milk. How the rest of the world must marvel at our pristine sovereignty and weep with jealousy. theguardian.com/education/20…

Fatima lives in a safe seat. Her vote will make no difference to the result of the next general election, so politicians can get away with ignoring her. Fatima needs her vote to count the same as everyone else's. Fatima needs Proportional Representation. #ChangeTheVotingSystem

When @jburnmurdoch said this was "probably the best article on Covid I've read," I had to read it immediately. It's really good, as everything from @zeynep seems to be. theatlantic.com/health/archi…

In 1996, New Zealand changed its voting system to a form of Proportional Representation. It hasn't led to chaos or confusion. It's led to one of the most effective responses to one of the biggest issues of our time. We should #ChangeTheVotingSystem too. nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/artic…

And for all the wibblers complaing about how this is too much money being spent on cycling. For the same amount of cash that cycling is getting over 3 years, 10 miles of road and a roundabout are being upgraded near me. To save about 5 minutes. gov.uk/government/news/updat…

Really simple table showing where you need infrastructure for cycling - Part of the great work by @Phil_PJA and teams at @PhilJonesAssoc & @WSP_UK in producing assets.publishing.service.go… We use these rules as filters in our Active Streets Assessment Tool activestreets.uk/
Let's prove him wrong.
Mike is furious that Boris Johnson is investing £2bn of taxpayers' money into cycling: "What we don't need is more cyclists. The cycling community is nothing less than an absolute eye-sore on the entire country." Watch the show ► youtu.be/LW3vjZDINI4 @Iromg

Cycling and walking have a huge role in tackling some of the health and environmental challenges that we face. Our £2bn cycling strategy will encourage more cycling with thousands of miles of new bike lanes, and training for those who want to learn.

If you think that spending money on cycling will make driving worse, you're wrong. Spending money on cycling will mean fewer people on the road, fewer cyclists in front of you, and fewer people needing the NHS. Driving makes driving worse.
