Obviously there's loads of stuff on securitisation and speech acts. I think a more interesting research agenda is when securitisation/speech acts don't work.

UK govt claims to have suspended all relevant arms exports to Israel. Don’t be fobbed off by this: not only are they allowing F35 parts to be exported via USA , they have also left in place 90% of licences for other weapons. They say they are not of direct use in Gaza. BUT

Last October, the Prime Minister told LBC that "Israel does have that right [to cut food, water & power from Gaza]."
Today, in the Chamber, he claimed he’s "well aware of the definition of genocide" & that's why he’s "never referred to [Gaza] as a genocide."

Deeply disturbing to learn that F-35 components have been covertly sent to Israel via British airbases & Heathrow, enabling 2000lb bombs to be dropped on Gaza.

Australia, Canada, and US have all apologised for residential school systems. No question that these schools were horrific, but they are just an outgrowth of settler colonialism. And these states cannot apologise for settler colonialism because they cannot apologise for being.
My apology for what took place during the Indian Boarding School era is only one step forward from the shadows of the past.
