Algunos están tan acostumbrados al modelo que popularizó Marvel que no entienden el concepto que propone el DCU.
Cada universo tiene su propia fórmula y está bien. Que compartan elementos no significa que tengan que funcionar igual.
El DCU puede tener historias complementarias y otras que construyan hacia grandes eventos sin que todo sea obligatorio para entender la trama principal.

Modern Hasbro would never approve something like Armada, Animated or even something like Bayverse, today because they all take to many risks.

In clip's case, he need to make sure his blood, which is infected with worms, mixes in with the smiling guy, a monster, wounds. He can manevour the wound on his hand into the neck, It's hard to do with let's say your forearm or leg.
As for trope, it's proably more visible seeing blood on the hand. It's decade for people to realize Captain America's arm had a big gash.
