My boss, @Miovision's @kurtismcbride, makes some great points in his new op-ed on tangible policy steps would should be taking to enable cities to adopt innovative technologies at the kind of scale that can make a meaningful difference in the lives of their citizens.
In Canada, over $690 billion of public infrastructure is in fair to very poor condition.
The problem? The funding type we have in Canada is not conducive for smart cities.
So how do make our funding smarter?

Exciting News! We've acquired CJ Hensch & Associates, a Texas corporation specializing in traffic data collection and engineering studies. They've been a loyal customer - our journey together has been remarkable!

A great read for anyone who remembers people getting summer jobs tree planting.

.@Miovision CEO, Kurtis McBride, reflects on the transition from hardware- to software-centric: "For decades, traffic engineers were mostly trying to accomplish one thing – moving vehicles quickly and safely."

This offers a lot of potential to test cycling infrastructure options in VR to identify the most effective options. Data might also help address typical concerns about whether or not new bike infrastructure will get used.
Test then build: cyclists can ride an actual street recreated in VR, with realistic traffic based on multimodal data generated by Miovision Scout, to test potential changes designed to make cycling more attractive. #urbanplanning #activetransportation buff.ly/3ibZHV5
This. A *lot* of the value in Twitter is the fact that it attracted celebs, artists, journalists, academics, politicians, etc. If those people leave, so does most of the value. The challenge of Twitter wasn't software engineering; it was how to monitize the value of its posters.

Agree with this. How we went from a well received gov't report with tangible recommendations in February to this legislation is hugely disappointing.

.@Miovision has recruited experienced execs based in the US, just opened a US HQ in Atlanta, and has made two US-based acquisitions.
Our CEO, @kurtismcbride recently talked to the @globeandmail's @joshokane about our expanding presence in the US via strategic acquisitions and leadership recruiting. buff.ly/3TvSuvH
We may be based in Kitchener, but we're growing into a truly global company!
Our President, Steve Strout, is pleased to announce the opening of our new US Headquarters in The Battery neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. Learn more about how we’re growing to better serve our US customers – read Steve’s post.

A lot of good ideas here ... It would be nice to see them included in the final legislation.
I voted against Ford's new housing bill. It is underwhelming on supply, MIA on affordability and straight up dangerous on the environment. It does not meet the crisis we are in - I'll continue to push. Read my open letter to the Minister here. #onpoli
Amazing to see the impacts @Miovision is having in Peterborough!
Reducing traffic congestion along a 1.75 km corridor in @CityPtbo resulted in travel time savings valued at $977,000; 106,700 litres less fuel consumed; and a 273 ton reduction in CO2 emissions. Read the project report: buff.ly/3AVw54D
"... you need to know that there are people who feel that their freedoms involve being able to intimidate others. They go after journalists & politicians with no fear of retribution." A timely thread from the Mayor of Calgary.
Wishful thinking: Zellers comes back as a legitimate, Canadian-based competitor for Amazon. But that's probably way more ambitious than what they have in mind! ctvnews.ca/business/the-retu…

Suspicious why @fordnation keeps pushing the 413/Bradford Bypass with questionable stats. THERE'S ALREADY a state-of-the-art highway that can relieve gridlock...the 407! Want to save farmland & a lot of money Doug? Lower 407 tolls to something near reasonable & watch what happens
Not only should Meta not be shutting this down, but all social media companies should be required, by legislation if needed, to provide this kind of transparency (and probably a lot more).
1. @meta is reportedly shutting down @CrowdTangle, a once-independent social media analytics tool
This is very bad news
Along with many journalists, I have used @Crowdtangle to break stories about how Facebook operates
Now they are getting rid of it
Nice profile on @Miovision by Canada's agency to support sustainable technologies!

I'm proud to work for @Miovision, where we're transforming traffic signals from analog tools for controlling traffic to sensor-based computing platforms for addressing a broad range of transportation challenges!
Thanks to $16.6M in funding from @SDTC_TDDC, Miovision is developing a cost-effective, next generation digital intersection platform capable of running powerful software-based solutions to reduce the environmental impact of transportation. bit.ly/3Nv5mjh

What do you think - is this where we should put a new highway - through the heart of our Greenbelt? And unleash another generation of congestion-inducing, gas guzzling sprawl?
RT if your answer is NO.
#Highway413 is a terrible idea and should not be built. I thought that it would be helpful for people to see what it would plough through, so I made this video. This is as close as I could get to the whole route from 400-401. #onpoli
