For New Yorkers and so many within the St. John’s community, September 11 is personal. Today, we remember the lives lost, honor those who served and sacrificed, and hold close all whose lives were forever changed.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

In memory of William G. Minardi, “Billy”
July 14, 1955 – September 11, 2001
Age 46
Bedford, New York
Cantor Fitzgerald, derivatives broker
North Tower, World Trade Center
Billy Minardi lived 48-hour days. His wife, Stephanie, said he never sat still. He did not want to miss anything, and he did not.
He rose at 4:30 a.m., worked out, then went to Cantor Fitzgerald to trade derivatives. He kept dozens of friendships from high school, college, and Wall Street. He played golf with clients on weekends. He coached his son William Jr.’s basketball team. He followed the Louisville Cardinals wherever they went, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, California, Utah, because his best friend and brother in law, Rick Pitino, coached them. They had been best friends since high school. Pitino used to tease Joanne, Billy’s sister, that he married her only to stay close to Billy. They spoke two or three times a day, including the morning of September 11.
He was the beloved husband of Stephanie and the father of William M., Robert P., and Christine A. He was a son, a brother, an uncle who filled rooms and refused to let anyone else pick up the check. People who met him once said they felt they had known him their whole lives.
On September 11 he was at work in Cantor Fitzgerald’s offices in the North Tower, above the impact zone. His work identification was later found in the rubble. Stephanie told their son Willie the news on September 16, the day that would have been their 13th wedding anniversary. Willie was 12.
Life, the family has said, has never been the same without him. They remember him by telling the funny stories, toasting the life he led, and refusing to let the days he packed so full become empty.
William G. Minardi “Billy” was a father, a friend, and a man who used every hour. He is not forgotten.
Never forget.❤️🙏

Welles Crowther was 24 years old.
An equities trader working on the 104th floor of the South Tower. A young guy with a career ahead of him, who was also a volunteer firefighter.
On September 11th, after the plane hit, he covered his nose and mouth with a red bandana and went to help.
He found a stairway. Guided injured people through the smoke. Carried a badly wounded woman on his back.
Then he went back upstairs.
That’s the part I keep coming back to. He had helped people find a way down, and he turned around to reach the people still waiting for help.
I try to imagine that decision. The noise, the smoke, the fear. I can’t honestly say I know what I would have done.
Welles kept going back.
He died when the South Tower collapsed.
The people he helped didn’t know his name. They remembered the man in the red bandana. Later, they would learn who he was.
I think about how young 24 really is. How much life he should have had left. And about the people who got to go home to their families because he was there.
When we say “never forget,” these are the stories we need to keep telling.
His name was Welles Crowther.
He was 24. And he deserves to be remembered.
Please share so we don't forget this hero.

There was always an extra appreciation for America the day I’d return to port from a deployment.
A feeling I wished some ungrateful fuckers could experience.
I’ve never lost that feeling.
Happy Birthday to the greatest nation in the world. 🇺🇸

On July 4th, 1920, Francesco & Josephina Fraschilla arrived from Sicily to Ellis Island in New York Harbor. My grandmother considered that day her birthday in America. They spoke no English. 97 years later, their great grandson graduated from an Ivy League school. America! 🙏🏼🇺🇸🙏🏼

The only positive I can say about Dan Hurley is that he found his perfect match… a loser crybaby just like him!
ICYMI: Andrea Hurley on St. John's fans 👀
"I'm gonna say it... When we went to the (Elite 8) game, all those St. John's fans were rooting against UConn. And that just broke my heart... It's really sad, and that's crappy. That was just crappy."

Mike Repole on the future of St. John’s:
“I’ve already committed my pledge to Ed Kull, Rick Pitino and the team for next year. We don’t want this to be a one- or two-year thing. We want to build a dynasty here for the next 5-10 years.”
This is just the beginning. 😎

It's not often you coach a group of young men that care so much for each other and gave me every ounce of perspiration they had in them. Loved every day I was with them. Thank you Men!!!
