All they do is lie. The irony is going so hard about a country that doesn't even belong to you.

โ€œOn October 5, 1937, Franklin Roosevelt did something that still gives me goosebumps to this day. He secretly visited a struggling single mother named Mary Thompson in a tiny walk-up apartment in Brooklyn after reading her heartbreaking letter about losing her factory job and being unable to feed her three children. When she opened the door and saw the President of the United States standing there with a basket of groceries and an envelope containing a personal check, she literally fainted. But hereโ€™s what makes this story truly magical: Roosevelt didnโ€™t simply leave the food and walk away after a photo opportunity. He actually sat at her worn kitchen table for more than an hour, rocking her baby on his lap and helping her older children with their homework. He told her about his fear of not being good enough after contracting polio, about how he woke up some mornings wondering whether he could keep going. And in that cramped little kitchen, the most powerful man in the world and a woman who felt completely powerless shared their fears โ€” and somehow, both emerged stronger. What absolutely stunned me was that Franklin Roosevelt made the Secret Service promise never to reveal the visit to the press. As he reportedly put it: โ€˜This isn't about politics. It's about one human being helping another. And the moment we turn genuine compassion into a publicity stunt, we lose something sacred.โ€™ And he continued visiting ordinary Americans in this way throughout his presidency โ€” more than 200 unannounced home visits, according to Eleanor Roosevelt's personal papers. He would simply bring groceries, pay overdue rent, sit with elderly people, and always ask the Secret Service to wait outside because he wanted those moments to be real, unforced โ€” just two human beings connecting without the burden of his office. Mary Thompson kept that evening a secret until Roosevelt's death. Only then did she finally tell a reporter: โ€˜He came into my home not as a president, but as a father who understood what it meant to be afraid. And when he left, he hugged me and whispered that being a good mother to my children was the most important job in America, more important than anything he did.โ€™ โ€˜I believed him because I could see in his eyes that he meant every single word.โ€™ And that is the legacy of Roosevelt that should inspire us most. True greatness is not measured by monuments or history books, but by the quiet moments when you use whatever power you have to make even one person feel seen, valued, and less alone in their struggle.โ€
