BREAKING NEWS: Secret acquirer of $15+ million domain chat .com revealed and it's exactly who you'd think. For those of you that have been following me for a while, you may recall that I announced earlier this year that I had acquired the domain chat .com for an "8 figure sum" (which was later reported as being $15.5M). I also shared that I had sold the domain to an undisclosed buyer. I was not at liberty to share who the acquirer was (I was going to leave that to them, when they were ready). Well, in a 8 character tweet (talk about brevity), Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI revealed that they were the buyer. If you visit the website now, it goes to ChatGPT. I know many are curious about the sale price price. So, here's a prompt that GPT o1 does a really good job of reasoning through. --- PROMPT BEGINS HERE --- ROLE: You are a smart, curious person on the Internet. CONTEXT: You have been given the following facts: * Dharmesh buys chat .com for $15.5M * He bought it for a project. He doesn't usually sell domains. * When he does sell a domain, it's almost never at a loss. * OpenAI was the perfect home for this domain, do he decided to sell it. * He's known Sam for over a decade since before OpenAI * Dharmesh doesn't like profiting off of people he considers friends (and also doesn't like referring to himself in the third person) * He has repeatedly declared his love for OpenAI: The platform, the developer experience and the company. * He's always wanted to own OpenAI shares. * He made a non-humble brag earlier this year that he's now an investor in OpenAI. * He doesn't need the cash from a domain sale, he's doing OK. How much do you think he sold the chat .com domain for? What percent of that was in shares of OpenAI? Provide an approximate range and show reasoning. --- PROMPT ENDS HERE ---

Given the latest New York Times article on Polymarket, this seems like a good time to make clear: • Polymarket is strictly non-partisan. We get told we're Dem operatives and MAGA, depending on the day. Unfortunately the story is much less juicy, we're just market nerds who think prediction markets provide the public with a much needed alternative data source. It's naturally a fit in a world where there are infinite opinions being served to you algorithmically based on what you already think, designed only to keep you engaged and push you further into an echo chamber. If just one thing, Polymarket is a reality check. • Polymarket is not about politics. The vision never was to be a political website, and it still isn't. From launch day, the goal has been to, "harness the power of free markets to demystify the real world events that matter most to you." This US election cycle, we've been pulled onto center stage, as people are fed up with having to make sense of 'For You' feeds, pundits, and incongruent polls - we take that responsibility seriously. Polymarket's rise in popularity correlates with correctly forecasting Biden dropping out - it was the one source that called it. Hopefully politics is the first step to get the masses to realize the value of market-based forecasts. • It's crazy I have to say this, but it's time to put the "Thiel-controlled" narrative to rest. He has no direct contact or control with the company. Founders Fund, one of the most active VC funds (Airbnb, Stripe, etc.), and one of our 50+ investors, has a minority stake in the company with no board seat/control - and the partner who did the Polymarket deal isn't even Thiel. His politics have no bearing on how Polymarket works, operates, or what the prices are - end of story. The beauty of Polymarket is it's all peer-to-peer and transparent. Even more transparent than traditional finance, where all the data is obfuscated and only visible to the operator. That's why everyone is able to audit all the usage - which is a good thing for free markets. A feature, not a bug. The market sets the price, not the operator. There is no "house" setting the odds. It's the invisible hand, not the thumb on the scale. The idea is if people disagree with the market price, they have the opportunity to capitalize by buying the side they think is priced too low. As these markets get more popular, liquid, and accessible, we foresee a world where markets guide decision making, and opinions are backed by capital. The downstream effect is an information landscape with less sensationalism and more truth. Onwards

Hørt ved pølsevognen: "Hvad skal der på?" "Der skal fart på!!" @MehtabKarta rammer virkelig hovedet på sømmet her. Must read for alle der vil starte virksomhed (eller investere i en)
In our experience, the worst managed companies lack a sense of urgency. Urgency forces people to ruthlessly prioritize things that move the needle. Companies without a sense of urgency always have a lot of people on their team working on nothing important... Here are a few ways to build a sense of urgency. -Set short deadlines. Long deadlines almost never work. If a long deadline exists for a massive project, then ensure it’s suitably broken out into short quantifiable sprints. Question every single date you are given. Ask why something can’t be done in half the time suggested. -Never give out too many resources. This includes time, money and people. Creative solutions are not abundant when resources are abundant. -Find non-value add tasks and wipe them out. Have employees make a list of what they are doing each week. They should record everything they are doing. You’ll be surprised to see how many items are on there that add no value, can be automated, or given to a less expensive employee. -Bake a sense of urgency into your core values, then fire anyone without a sense of urgency. Use the EOS GWC tool to achieve this.

We are absolutely at a place where, if AI development completely stopped, we would still have 5-10 years of rapid change absorbing the capabilities of current models and integrating them into organizations and social systems. I don't think development is going to stop, though.

Founder Mode is the way... Træk gode folk ind men hold fast i founders drive og ånd ✅️
“Founder Mode” is a simple idea, and it runs somewhat as a counterweight to what was becoming conventional wisdom in Silicon Valley: The Valley had figured out that “replace the founder as CEO as soon as there’s enough traction hire a Professional CEO” didn’t work well, but there was frequent messaging that the job of a founder is to get enough traction that you can hire people way better than you at every specific role (true), then you should sit back and become a figurehead of sorts (false.) The Managers (capital m) were taking over companies and running them very beautifully and happily into the ground. So what does Founder Mode mean? Yes, your job as a founder is to learn as quickly as you can, and yes, you absolutely need to hire people much better than you at specific things. BUT that doesn’t mean taking a backseat and letting others run the show, even when those people want you to. Even when those people have a killer resume and get annoyed with you. AND bear in mind that some of those people who seem like experts in some of those roles are incompetent at best and fraudulent at worst. So you must trust and verify, your thoughts and opinions still matter, and you need to stay in the weeds and care about the details. In retrospect it may seem obvious, but culturally not everyone has agreed. It comes with being prickly, being disliked at times, and having hard conversations frequently.

We’re testing SearchGPT, a temporary prototype of new AI search features that give you fast and timely answers with clear and relevant sources. We’re launching with a small group of users for feedback and plan to integrate the experience into ChatGPT. openai.com/index/searchgpt-p…
