Day 1 so far…an unfunded tax cut. Still time to announce some welfare savings. And funding for defence.
Good news that VAT will be cut on electricity bills. It’s a simple way for families to save a few quid, and to mechanically help to keep inflation that little bit lower. But the DigitalID program was unfunded. The government will have to set out how it will pay for its new policies at the budget.

One day in and Burnham's economic strategy is already falling apart . We @Conservatives proposed a VAT cut to energy bills in a fully funded way by scrapping net zero subsidies. Labour say they will fund their just announced VAT cut to energy bills by scrapping their proposed Digital ID cards. But the money for Digital ID cards was never funded/ allocated. So where will the money come from for their VAT cut? More taxes elsewhere no doubt. I think we will be seeing a lot of this giving with one hand, taking with the other in the coming months - and the British public will see right through it.

We @ToryReformGroup wish the new PM good luck! However….. There are some pretty worrying policy signs that we are already seeing - rent controls? Performative devolution? Where are the economic plans and foreign policy positions which we need for the global Britain of 2026?

He hasn’t even started yet and already Andy Burnham is bowing to the unions and taking us backwards….
🚨Team Burnham want to slow down introduction of driverless taxis in London says FT. A major symbolic shift towards government actively slowing tech development to protect existing jobs Big debate on this ahead… teapawt.net/ft/status/207259570792…

Absolutely this!
Sir John Major makes the essential point. Parents who send children to private school save the state money. Labour’s tax on them has failed. Now the state has 2,000 fewer teachers than when Conservatives left office. So we will reverse this futile, vindictive policy.

Foreign investment into the UK declined by 14% in 2025 according to a new report by EY! More chaos from Labour - bad for business and bad for the economy. Read more below ⬇️ independent.co.uk/news/busin…

I’d thought there was a small chance Downing Street was trying to do the right thing, but struggling against a Labour Parliamentary Party that would not do the necessary, including cutting welfare. Guess this disgraceful quote has flattened that theory. They really don’t get the peril they are putting nation in.

Today we remember the sacrifice and bravery of the British and Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy 82 years ago. They fought for freedom, duty, and our values. We will never forget their sacrifice.

Rising food prices have been created, in large part, by anti-business policies of this Labour government. Rocketing energy prices, business rates, and costly red tape, have all contributed to this food and farming emergency. The Chancellor is desperately looking for a way out. The problem is, her Soviet-style solution is only going to make food prices rise even further. telegraph.co.uk/business/202…

Times: Alan Milburn warns of economic ruin as young are ‘rewired by phones’ A well intentioned report but fails to properly grasp that Labour made it harder and more expensive for business to hire. Yet another reason why we are seeing a rise in NEETs. thetimes.com/article/304dbf2…

Migration still isn’t low. Over 700,000 immigrants came here in 2025. What’s happened is that huge numbers of Brits are leaving and not coming back. We are in an exodus of our brightest and best young people and Labour are trading them for lower-wage migrants.

This country needs a Government that has got its act together. Instead we’ve got Keir Starmer losing his moral compass and backsliding on his support for Ukraine.
