For leaseholders, including shared owners, suffering unaccountable service charges and undemocratic block management. Demanding widespread commonhold.

“Cheated?” @HarryScoffin think 000s decent citizens would use much stronger language to describe the betrayal we are witnessing. But we’ll use our votes to register our final verdict. Diolch for your amazing work in refusing to surrender to an institutional & govt backed scam.

Interviewer: Their bills went up 33% !! You promised to END leasehold What are you going to do ? A.R. : We understand their frustration. We will bring some legislation to tackle some of those issues. But I’m unsure when we get to it. And I won’t promise the abolition of Leasehold

Very disappointed. They’ve been got to by the powerful vested interests involved. Guaranteed that legislation will not be by the end of the year. She’s squirming because she knows she can’t deliver. Ground rent tiny part of the problem.

You’ve missed us mobilising leaseholders around a 9% deferment rate and a 9% capitalisation rate. That would slash the costs of buying out the freehold. Without that, no commonhold. SUMMER’S OVER. GIVE FREEHOLDERS THE 99! freeleaseholders.org.uk/our-…

Assume there's nothing in the budget about leasehold then despite Burnham promising a bill before Christmas? Quelle surprise. He'll call an election next year, the seals will vote Labour back in based on some nice words and the whole thing will be dropped til 2032.

The freeholder appointing the Managing Agents is akin to the lunatics running the asylum.
The legal structure that allows Freeholders to extract unlimited cash from leaseholders via their ability to appoint Managing Agents must end. The new bill must specify that only those who pay service charges be allowed to choose the MA. Bad MAs will be sacked.

Labour made a big show of working with the Tories to get LAFRA through the wash up. It gave leaseholders false hope that the party believed in that legislation and would bring its provisions into force quickly. There have been several housing-related bills which they could have used as the vehicle to fix any purported defects to LAFRA. Let's hope the Commonhold Bill will make up for the delays.
Service charges up 26% in a year. Our supporters are clinging on by their fingernails while the government retreats on its manifesto promise to end leasehold. @andyburnham talks about taking back control. So why won’t his upcoming Bill give leaseholders the Right to Manage?

The current system which allows Freeholders to appoint Managing Agents who determine service charges must go. It’s Leaseholders who pay the charges. Freeholders pay none. MAs may be padding the service charges to strip off extra cash for themselves or Freeholders.
Service charges have been sky rocketing for years. Mine has increased from £1,500 to £3,200 for a 2 bed in Birmingham. This happened about 4 years ago. Newspapers ran an article on it. Nothing got done. Labour is moving far too slowly while millions suffer financial hardship.

Yes, we all know that this is coming, and that @UKLabour will once again make promises about ending leasehold and fixing building safety. But now we all know that their support in opposition was not followed by action in government.
May election feeling likelier and likelier to me.

Still waiting for you to “end the feudal leasehold system.” You’re fiddling while Rome burns. You’ve done nothing for the hard working people of this country. And that’s who you’re meant to represent. General election can’t come soon enough.

Oh... I didn't catch what he said. Exactly, Parliament can do what it wants. Judicial review is a cornerstone of modern democracy. Let the freeholders go to court. It's fine. It's their right. It should not affect the pace of change.

What we hear from @AngelaRayner & @UKLabour is "words, words, words." What we hear from leaseholders "we need action, action, action." When are labour & co going to translate words into action.
