Pearl looks like it will be an easy GTM mining expansion, and hashrate/energy should increase dramatically.
If you believe what Omri and team have written, Pearl's software stack may make normal workloads more efficient than baseline is today even without mining. Call that -X% for the sake of argument. So rolling out the stack (with mining turned off) should be a net cost advantage for ML providers.
Then, Pearl fp8 mining adds some inference overhead call that +Y%. Inference gets a little bit slower because of mining, but the parameters are tunable. If your workload needs low latency, you mine less and do more inference. If your workload is batch jobs that are OK with latency, you mine more and do inference slower. ML providers turn mining on/off when its profitable.
An added benefit of the (planned) Pearl stack is access to distributed compute jobs. For ML jobs that can be trusted to distribute using privacy attestations and TEE, jobs can eventually be paid for with PRL token. It's a natural network effect to pay for distributed compute with a distributed currency.
So the net takeaways:
- Inference providers likely get a net cost savings from integrating the Pearl stack.
- Depending on workload latency requirements and Pearl price, miners join the network when mining revenue > incremental costs.
- Pearl token is used to pay for distributed compute jobs. It's natural to use a decentralized hard money to pay for decentralized work.
Return on capital brings in miners. Distributed compute brings in token usage. More miners and more token usage increase energy and monetary effects, bringing in pure-SOV buyers.
Over time, Pearl token is likely to be seen as a future on inference compute. Since compute will be payable in Pearl, corporations and individuals have a reason to stockpile the token today to pay for compute tomorrow.
Dependencies: fp8 lands well, continued AI usage, electricity and hardware continue to cost money, team executes well.
One of the more durable crypto investment theses IMO because the GTM for all parties is so clear.
My $20-$100 price estimate comes from difficulty adjustment math at prlstats.com/difficulty. Expect that to take a few years conservatively. Could be different depending on how things play out.
Our thesis on Pearl is simple: it will attract the world’s AI compute, and we’re here to bring it in.
We believe datacenters and inference providers securing pearl-2:native should have predictable payouts so they can manage their finances with confidence.
Today, we launched Peryn Pool with predictable PPS+ payouts.
And we’ve already made our first payouts to GPUs securing the network through Peryn Pool.
Optional direct USD payouts are next.
Start mining with Peryn and get the most out of your GPUs.

Markets can outrun fundamentals no matter how good fundamentals are. $PEARL fair value in a few years is still $20-$100 if the team continues executing.
Last time the market didn't properly sell off after a huge event like this was the FTX collapse
When I saw the lack of follow through then I got giga bullish
And we subsequently went from 16k to 100k
Hard to be bearish here after having been given the same setup yet again

Pearl mainnet is six months old today.
Block 1 was mined on Apr 27 at 09:00 UTC.
Six months on, the chain is at block 134,576 with 17.15% of the 2.1B pearl-2:native cap mined. The network hashrate high stands at 86.08 EH/s, set Oct 23.
“If anything the equity raise means 1) Pearl Labs is not reliant on selling PRL to fund operations,”
get it?
I've enjoyed Jake's coverage on Pearl. Even though I am bullish I think his criticisms are fair, I also think we have more common ground than it appears. Specifically:
-Pearl's emission schedule is the number 1 bear case. A key aspect of a SOV asset is that price goes up, which is harder if you have indiscriminate sellers.
-Concerns around transparency are also valid. Without a "fundamental" business / revenue line, narrative is the main driver of price. An absence of clear communication leads to uncertainty and doubt, which is detrimental to an asset that derives its value from social consensus.
However, on the actual nature of the raise I disagree that it's bearish or leads to a conflict of interest:
To me, token-equity concerns arise for revenue generating protocols, where value accrual is unclear as it is either diluted or completely given to equity holders that act as a senior tranche, with token holders suffering.
Pearl Labs' equity raise causes no conflict of interest since the distinction is clear: Pearl is a SOV asset, while Pearl Labs is an AI infrastructure company that develops Pearl's proof-of-useful-work technology and commercializes inference services. Pearl Labs' success is accretive to the Pearl ecosystem but never extractive, since Pearl is not intended to accrue revenue. If anything the equity raise means 1) Pearl Labs is not reliant on selling PRL to fund operations, 2) it signifies there are powerful forces behind the success of PRL and 3) the raise will add hashrate to the PRL network.
Very strongly disagree that Pearl Labs should introduce PRL buybacks. It would be the quickest way to add a token/equity conflict, as it immediately creates the question of how much value accrues to Pearl Labs vs the token. It also instantly reframes Pearl from an asset trading at 1/30th of ZEC's valuation to an overvalued 1000x P/S token. This is the counterintuitive thing about SOV assets: Flows >>> buybacks, even for huge revenue generating projects like HYPE (although buybacks matter a lot for narrative). Removing a business and letting an asset trade purely as an expression of an idea (e.g. AI BTC) removes company specific and execution risk, stops anchoring the token to a business that needs to grow in line with the price, and also removes its ceiling.
The second controversial point is around centralization and the team mining 5% for themselves. Controversially, I think centralization matters less than people think, even for SOVs. Take MicroStrategy / Bitmine as examples. What matters is centralization among team/VCs who are going to sell. If the team mining a significant amount of tokens means those tokens are effectively out of circulation, I view this as bullish rather than bearish. Of course, this only holds true as long as they don't sell.
Lastly I think it's important to contextualize that a lot of my bullishness comes from a regret minimization framework. Pearl is a nascent SOV, and the concerns around emissions / transparency are very valid. However, it is also one of the most exciting narratives. Just like there is a future where Pearl is insta dumped by institutions that mine it at a low cost basis, there is a future where powerful BTC miners and connected entities rally behind PRL as a new way to monetize their compute through inference, while hashrate increases and fears continue to grow around BTC's security budget.
Thats why, while I see the same risks as Jake, I think that potential of exponential upside does justify a small position, even if just as a hedge to existing BTC/ZEC holdings.
