All this fighting about the conditions the Lincoln(or cell block 72), sub par leadership and whether or not we should even be fighting this war had me looking back to my ‘02-‘03 deployment. Someone said to me I didn’t know anything about crap leadership. OEF/OIF and we don’t know what bad leadership at the top is like? Laughable. Gonna leave all that bickering to yall though. This goes for all branches but I speak Navy talk but I don’t speak for every sailor past, present or future. The ships gonna pull pier side, lines made up, and hotel services will be connected(my fellow R-Div handling CHT). Liberty calls gonna go down and first leave period starts. A couple hundred poor bastards will be on duty and get to do one more glorious night. The lights don’t simply get shut off and door get closed, it’s a Warship after all. Some will have families, some won’t have anyone. Some will be going home to a nice bed and others will hit the bars. There’s gonna be awesome welcome home signs made up both elaborate and the coolest ones of all, the ones the kids got free range on. There’s gonna media blitz, maybe some vendors and a lot of smiles and tears. First leave period will pile into their cars and take off, flying high on cloud nine. This is where it gets harder than deployment whether they notice it or not. Dads gotta learn how to dad again, moms gotta learn how to mom again. Kids have to reacquaint with this stranger that’s back in the house and enforcing rules. “Normal” communication is gonna be different and will take time. There will be arguments for sure. Unfortunately about a year from now there’s a good chance not everyone that walked off that brow will be around anymore and I don’t mean through attrition and PCS. Sailor mouth incoming. 10 days, maybe two weeks if I’m being generous, EVERY single fucking politician, low life window licking pricks that report the so called “news”, all the fucking blow hard ass hats on social media will have forgotten about them. Nothing. It’ll just be another hard deployment that was in the past. Washington DC will have moved on. Fox News, CNN, MSNBC and so on, will be looking for something new to exploit for money. Don’t forget about them, give em time, check in, watch them closely while also giving them space. The same goes for the member. Be patient with your loved ones, they’re going through it as well.
