I thought I'd cut my last dahlias of 2026 last week.
But I lied!
I cut some more today, while massacring the remaining flowers and buds. They should have gone onto the compost but about 1/100 were too good to be wasted and I ended up with 3/4 of a bucket of dahlias for the pub.
I did end up with the prettiest compost bin on the allotment...
The stalks/leaves left will be cut down after the first frost. Any buds that appear before then, will be nipped off. I've left as many leaves as possible to put energy into the tuber instead of energy into flowers/seeds.
