Inter and questionable deals, - sit back and enjoy the show. Inter bought Alessandro Bastoni from Atalanta for a staggering €31m, - for a club in financial trouble at that time, it seems like a big gamble to spend this amount of money on a 17-year old unproven defender. Well, unless of course you already had agreed with the selling club, that they would also buy some of your “talents” at fictitious prices 🤝🏻 Bastoni has turned out to be a good player, but €31m for 153 minutes of senior football… With all due respect, I truly doubt that was his actual price. However it’s quite remarkable that a normally well-run club like Atalanta, who is known for having a good scouting setup, within 12 months, ends up overspending and misjudgning the talent of not one, not two, but three players - all from Inter! If you haven’t heard of Fabio Eugelfi, Marco Carraro and Davide Bettella, do not worry, nobody have. None of these players ever got playing time in Atalanta... Well actually none of them have played as much as 1 second in Serie A at some point in their career. Yet, Atalanta bought them for a total of €19.5m. Now I know that Transfermarkt may not be 1:1 with reality, but the three players had a combined value of €2.2m. • Eguelfi was valued at €400.000, - Atalanta and Inter “decided” he was worth 15 times as much as transfermarkts valuation = Atalanta paid Inter €6m 🫰🏻 • Carraro was valued at €800.000 by transfermarkt, - Atalanta paid €5m which is more than 6 times as much as their valuation. • Bettella, who probably is the most talented with matches for the Italian U21’, was valued at €1m by transfermarkt on the day of the deal, but appartently Atalanta and Inter felt like he was a €8.5m player 🤷🏼‍♂️ Today, Eguelfi is without a contract, Carraro tempts an existence in Serie C, while Bettella actually can be found in Monza, - but probably only because the club has not succeeded in finding a club in Serie B or C, like in the previous years. If you balance the four deals, €31m vs. €19.5m, Bastoni ended up costing Inter only €11.5m, which sounds more like the real price. In the end, congratulations to both clubs on gaining some much needed income at the time✌🏻⚫️⚪️
