I am beyond words about the commutation of Leonard Peltier. His release from prison signifies a measure of justice that has long evaded so many Native Americans for so many decades. I am grateful that Leonard can now go home to his family. I applaud President Biden for this action and understanding what this means to Indian Country. whitehouse.gov/briefing-room…

There are a lot of lessons to learn:
- you have to win to wield power
- you can’t “teach your side a lesson” by helping them lose
- other minority groups want to be white & will vote alongside white interests even when it hurts them
- black people consistently vote pragmatically

✨New preprint! We report that nearly half of the variation in research effort on 293 bird species in the US+Canada is explained by just 3 factors: 1) visual appeal, 2) breeding range size, & 3) # of universities w/in that range. Here’s what we did:🧵

Two of my biggest inspirations visited the @SEVLTER & likely passed my field sites! Since 1999 we have monitored the changes in reproduction for piñon, juniper, and oaks. I play a small part but nevertheless elated that @SecDebHaaland & @Rep_Stansbury visited this special place.
In NM, we know water is life & our lands sustain us. We are grateful for @SecDebHaaland’s leadership at @Interior in ensuring we are protecting the Rio Grande, our Bosque, & Wildlife Refuges across the state.
Honored to visit the Sevilleta Wildlife Refuge with Secretary Haaland.
