Many of you would look at this vegetable and conclude that it's sick! The leaves look unhealthy, the appearance is strange, and some of you would probably be afraid to cook and eat it. But what if I told you that's just how this variety naturally looks, and the plant is perfectly healthy? Nature has its own designs! Now, let's see who knows what this vegetable is? And have you ever eaten it?

Today, I’m in Nyagatare District for the launch of the Livestock Fodder Plantation Season, with activities connecting fruit tree planting in schools and fodder production for livestock. The programme begins at GS Nyarupfubire with fruit tree planting and a commitment from students to care for the trees. It then continues at Edgar Farm for the official launch and community planting of Juncao Napier grass. The Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, the Mayor of Nyagatare District and the FAO Representative in Rwanda are scheduled to join the activities. The programme forms part of the activities leading up to tomorrow’s national World Food Day celebrations in Gatsibo District, under the theme “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow.” I’ll be sharing updates and insights from both sites. @RwandaAgri @FAORwanda #WorldFoodDay2026

#Innovation must go beyond producing more food. We must also #rethink how we consume food, manage resources, and reduce waste. Through a circular economy, agricultural waste can be transformed into valuable products, creating additional income opportunities while reducing waste. Food security requires solutions that address the entire food system, from production to consumption . #WorldFoodDay2026 #AgInfluencers #Huzatweeps
Today, I had the honour of serving as MC for the World Food Day 2026 Twitter (X) event under the theme “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow.” The discussion brought young innovators, AgrInfluences, agriprenuers and representatives from @WFP_Rwanda, @RwandaAgri, @FAORwanda and @IFADEastAfrica to explore how innovation can transform Rwanda’s agrifood systems, strengthen food security, and create opportunities for farmers and young people. From sustainable production to agricultural innovation, the conversation brought us an important ideas for building a more resilient and sustainable food. Over the next few posts, I’ll share key takeaways from the discussion. Stay tuned.

A kilo of #RwandaCoffee 🇷🇼sold for $452 at auction last week. It was specialty coffee, the top grade in the coffee world. Trained tasters score coffee out of 100, and anything above 80 counts as specialty. This lot, from K-Organics in Huye District, scored 90.74, and buyers around the world bid for it online. Most of Africa's coffee is sold very differently. It leaves the continent as raw, unroasted beans, at between $6 and $7.50 a kilo. From there, it is roasted, packed and branded abroad. One kilo makes about 100 cups, and at $4 a cup, that comes to around $400. A Rwandan farmer earns about $3.60 of it. So now my question is, how does buyer, regulators and Incharge institutions ensure that this money is back to the pocket of farmer? How can we digitalise direct payments to farmers and the middle men earn from farmer ? So, when you order your next coffee, do you know where it was grown, roasted and sold? If you sip next ☕️ coffee, think about how the price you’re paying will reflect farmers energy and passion. #AfricanCoffee #VisitRwanda
