Stablecoin Trading Volume Has Dropped Nearly 50% Since January 2026
Stablecoin trading activity has slowed significantly this year.
Monthly volume fell from approximately $3.1T in January to $1.61T in July, before briefly recovering to $2.3T in September.
$USDT continues to dominate trading activity, followed by $USDC.
For the broader crypto market, this slowdown is worth watching.
Lower stablecoin trading volume may signal weaker trading activity and reduced capital turnover across exchanges.
However, trading volume alone doesn't tell us whether capital is entering or leaving the market.

How Stock-Token Quote Assets Work in DeFi
Stock-paired memecoins introduce a different liquidity model.
Instead of trading against ethereum:native or stablecoins, memecoins can trade directly against tokenized stocks such as $NVDA , HIMS, or $MSTR
Here's how it works:
A trader buys a memecoin using a tokenized stock.
The stock tokens enter the liquidity pool while the trader receives memecoins.
The pool's reserves change, affecting prices and available liquidity.
Tokenized stocks can have limited onchain supply, especially when traditional markets are closed and new token issuance is restricted.
When trading demand concentrates in a pool, thin inventory can amplify price movements and create temporary differences between onchain prices and underlying stock prices.
This creates new opportunities for onchain trading, but also introduces liquidity, slippage, and arbitrage risks.
Key takeaway:
Tokenization enables 24/7 trading, but efficient price discovery still depends on sufficient liquidity, available inventory, and functioning arbitrage mechanisms.
