I think what we've learned today is that many people who claim to be against this oppressive Labour government are actually just in favour of their own form of oppression, simply with a different coloured hat on. Stay out of the every day person's lives you authoritarian freaks.

Regarding the whole gambling discourse doing the rounds on X today, this is basically my mindset and how I operate: I believe I should be free to live as an individual without massive state intervention into every single aspect of my life. I believe in personal sovereignty, taking responsibility for ones actions and that we can promote a collective English/British identity without stomping on everyone's individual freedoms in the process. If people don't have the same willpower as me, and they drink themselves into the ground or gamble themselves into bankruptcy then that's on them. It doesn't mean my freedoms should be stripped away to cater for the bottom 2%. The same people who are advocating for banning gambling because they don't like it are a stones throw away from the people who would persecute you for your speech because they disagree with that. Remember that. As an adult you should take some personal responsibility. Having your own agency means the freedom to make your own decisions and accepting the consequences if they're damaging to you. This doesn't mean everything should be legalised. I don't believe you should be free to shoot up heroin or crack should be legalised over the counter. But, within reason you should have the freedom to make your own decisions without the state stamping it's boot on your neck 24/7. I say this as someone who doesn't drink or gamble, by the way. Just let me live my life.
