Nedim Jahić, Adviser for Programme Development and Initiatives at the Srebrenica Memorial Center, is on a working visit to Kyiv focused on establishing direct institutional channels between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ukraine. Working alongside Katerina Kyrychenko, an international law expert based in Ukraine, Jahić is conducting a series of meetings with key state institutions, memorial bodies, human rights organisations, investigative groups and media actors. The objective is to identify concrete points of cooperation, establish reliable working-level contacts and connect relevant institutions dealing with documentation, accountability, memorialisation, access to justice and public communication. The programme includes meetings with the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide, the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center, ZMINA Human Rights Centre, Truth Hounds, Media Initiative for Human Rights, the Center for Civil Liberties and its Tribunal for Putin initiative, Vshanui, and the Ukrainian national news agency Ukrinform. This is the Srebrenica Memorial Center’s first official working visit to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion. The mission is designed to move beyond general exchanges and towards operational cooperation: institutional liaison, exchange of documentation practices, survivor-centred approaches, public information, evidence preservation and the development of long-term channels between relevant actors in both countries. The visit is part of a broader Srebrenica Memorial Center initiative on education and access to justice, supported by the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

At the Warsaw Security Forum, I met with @truth_hounds. They briefed me on their crucial work documenting #Russia’s violations of international law, which include ‘double-tap’ attacks against first responders as they come to the aid of victims. We also discussed the urgent need to secure the release of civilians unlawfully detained in Russia and in temporarily occupied territories in #Ukraine. Many of these civilians endure unspeakable ill-treatment. There must be accountability for all gross #humanrights violations. cc: @WarsawForum

O.B., a 57-year-old man, was detained by #Russian forces in 2022. He was held in a pit in the town of #Balakliia for two weeks, during which time he was beaten by Russian soldiers and threatened with execution. At one point, while being held at an illegal detention site, O.B. had to drink his own urine to survive due to a lack of water. 1/

O.B. was one of many civilians who were illegally detained and tortured by #Russian forces. Between February and September 2022, Russian forces operated a network of torture sites across occupied parts of #Kharkiv Oblast. Truth Hounds and PEJ identified 29 such sites.

Although drones provide operators with a high level of flight control, increasing the accuracy of attacks and improving the ability to distinguish between military and civilian targets, these precision weapons have become instruments of targeted mass violence against civilians. From #Haiti to #Ukraine and #Sudan, the impact of drone warfare extends far beyond the battlefield. 1/

Civilians in the city of #Oleshky, located in the #Kherson region, face the daily threat of shelling and drone attacks, and are left without food, drinking water, medicine and other essential aid. #Russian forces also use drones to target vehicles carrying people trying to leave the city or deliver supplies. 3/

Despite the @UN Security Council's 2004 arms embargo relating to #Darfur, both the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces have used apparently new, foreign-made military equipment in locations in Darfur. #Russia similarly continues to access foreign-made technology despite sanctions. A Geran-4 strike drone downed in the Kyiv region on 12 August 2026 contained 96 foreign-made components, including from the US, China, Taiwan, Germany, Switzerland and Canada. Some were manufactured in 2025–26. 4/4

In Ukraine, it is a war against civilians. For many young people, the Russian invasion robbed them of their youth and forever changed the life they had imagined. #AguantaUcrania
