Ok team long Riven lost because not enough Riven posting
Many people ask me why I am so critical of specifically the current meta even if other metas have had similarly or more egregious decks based on event winrates.
The stand out reason I hate the current format so much is that Riven simply does not play the game.
Irelia on Abandoned Hall or Leblanc on Hillock or whatever other broken combinations can get really absurd might totals, but they are still fundamentally contesting a battlefield. They do it far too well in many scenarios compared to the average deck, but you are still playing the game.
Riven on Star Spring and Dais literally just does not play the game. There are two fields that allow Riven to end every single turn with a double conquer and every unit in base. It is actually pathetic that we can see top 8 games at a Showdown end with legitimately ZERO combats.
Here's the ban text for Reavers Row:
"The first is Reaver’s Row, which promotes a noninteractive pattern (especially if both players bring it in the same game) - rather than have meaningful showdowns and interactions between players or situations where a player tries to hold, players will just retreat."
I am flabbergasted that Riven is being allowed to exist as is with Dais and ESPECIALLY Star Spring. Every justification for banning Reavers applies to Star Spring. Star Spring also enabled 8-0 games from Faefolk decks this weekend, absurd Leblanc shenanigans, and the master yi first mate classic where he auto wins turn 2.
Not emergency banning Star Spring before Stuttgart is extremely silly because it will almost certainly be banned afterwards. The Vegas meta will be entirely different, but have the same worlds qualification!
The fact Riven never has to actually care about holding enables EXTREMELY auto pilot gameplay. Im not exaggerating when I say I believe it is the easiest deck in the game to competitive results on by FAR. there is almost zero concept of balancing board development and combat tricks. Almost every other deck in the game has to worry about the fundamental balancing of board development and spells. Riven just shits out units, sends them all to base, draws 10 cards, and automatically beats 90% of decks in the game.
At this point Stuttgart is a lost cause. The tournament will feature a plethora of Kennen and Riven matches with close to zero combats per game and extensive cost cheating from Rhasa/Nocturne and Heron. Whoever plays solitaire better wins. Amazing!
I'm begging Riot to do the right thing and be liberal with bans post Stuttgart. Riftbound should be about CONTESTING BATTLEFIELDS. Get rid of the absurd cards that prevent this and/or enable decks that ignore this.
Going forward, don't be scared to make the right changes for the game. Making game play not miserable to play and watch should be the top priority. Just rip bans and adjust instead of holding yourselves to silly standards just because you tweeted you would
THANK YOU!

Let's talk.
My name is Tee. I'm a lifelong card game player. I started playing card games when I was four years old, and started playing Magic when I was twelve.
Magic afforded me the opportunity to get my family out of living below the poverty line.
Magic afforded me the first opportunity in my life to see the world.
Magic afforded me the opportunity to learn about other competitive card games.
If you know me, you know I owe a lot to Magic.
If you know me, you may also know that I LOVE a good engagement bait shitpost. (Like the one I'm QRTing here)
If you don't know me,
Magic the Gathering is the game that truly made me fall in love with card games.
I used to love playing paper vintage. I still enjoy drafting 2018-2020 versions of the Vintage Cube and do so regularly with my friends. I love limited formats and I used to love playing the weirdest decks possible and making them tick.
I used to work for Star City Games. My job Title was Pricing & Purchasing, but I was, at the time, responsible for setting the buy and sell prices for all sets that contained Reserved List cards.
I played competitive Magic from 2014 to 2021(ish?) but I was never really that great. Sprinkle in a couple top 8s from time to time, but I never took anything down. Just traveled for the love of the game and the adventure, mostly.
After Magic, I found myself amongst an incredibly talented group of FAB players, playing FAB professionally. That's where I started to break the ice.
There's always something to learn.
Magic made me better at FAB, FAB made me better at Riftbound.
I truly believe there is a game out there for everyone.
If your game is Magic, that is great.
Everyone deserves a hobby that gives them joy.
Life sucks, play Magic.
One thing that I don't tolerate in these posts are when people turn gaming discussions into personal attacks. Whether you are attacking me, or someone I don't know in the replies, you got blocked yesterday. These posts often lead to either very good discussion about game design, or personal attacks and name-calling because of someone enjoying a different game. The former is great and the latter is unacceptable.
If you feel like you know me now but didn't before, you still don't, but there's a little look into my life and my history with card games.
In the future, be nicer to each other.
(And watch out for engagement bait😉)

Glad to see Rift Atlas gave a way for someone to harass you after the game as well as in game. We played a super close game, I made a mistake and lost it. The guy adds me after just to flame me... Ruining the @mercgg name.

So now that Mel in League is getting a mid-scope to no longer reflect abilities, I would like to request an errata to Rebuttal in Riftbound to no longer be able to take control of my spells. Purely for consistency between games, not at all so she can't take my punch first.

Some reasonable pulls from day 2 of pre-rifts, but koguma seems more interested in the pretzels acquired for him at the mall after his hard work. On a side note, seems there is benefit to playing a low tier legend as 3 people gave me the sig spell for free, ready for Sac!

Some delulu comments here - my run and so many other Yi's runs are from standing on houses' shoulders. He deserves so much credit for figuring out Yi (and so much blame for Yi's meta share) dude deserves so much credit for the work he put in
builds of yi looked nothing alike and none of its players were in agreement before my #3 vancouver run. after my finish, builds started to converge around mine, it started T8 and winning RQs, and it became meta defining up to this day with @SWAGALISKtcg T8 RQ LA. in sydney i was #2 yi and none of the builds looked the same, nobody agreed on anything until i fixed the deck. i didnt even think the deck could T8 before i did it in vancouver. and i have to constantly run this education campaign because nobody believes that i invented the dominant build and play patterns, everyone merely suffers from having to play against it without knowing its history and what it took for @TSSRiftbound and i to arrive to the list. shout out to @EclipseFactor for winning and @Bazilard for T8, and for the CN player who won his regional with nearly my list.
