Power is entirely in the hands of the technocratic elite. We’ll see a Palantir-OpenAI-Anthropic-NVIDIA coalition with the gov’t—the rule of these few upon a population that has lost what it means to be human.
They have no attention spans, no inclination to write in a world where writing is done by machines, no inclination towards art or what touches the soul—after all, models can generate art instantly anyway—on top of it all, they’ll have transcended the need to think (why think when the answer lies a click away)?
We live in an age of abundance and we’re walking towards further abundance—but ironically, the more we have in our hands, the more meaningless it all becomes. These models will become even more powerful, and whilst now one can make the argument that you need to have an idea as to what you want and implement fixes along the way to generate proper results, this is not to survive for long. ChatGPT might’ve been a funny bot in 2022 when it was released, but these 4 years have come with exponential growth in the AI field, and its hold is only to increase, with the oligarchy having an even stronger hold.
Even by the most optimistic perceptions, nothing lies ahead save for the worst dystopia one can conceive.

The initial planning of Riyadh or other cities followed the same urban logic to prevent mobilization, hence suburbanization being visible in Saudi. This coupled in with treating Bedouins as movable commodities as well since they were prone to rebellion. In Cairo as well, Tahrir Square itself underwent many changes to erase popular memory of Egyptian uprising, replacing the grassy circle with an obelisk to project notions of Egyptian heritage (rather than maintain the meaning the Square gained from the Arab Spring), gov’t offices that were targeted being swapped for hotels, traffic being rerouted, and so on.

Mark Carney has quietly rebuilt how Canada's government actually works, and sidelined almost everyone who used to run it.
A Toronto Star investigation finds cabinet, Parliament, the civil service and the press have all been pushed to the margins in favour of a small circle around the prime minister. 🧵👇 (1/8)

Just finished this. Great read. Brings in the history of moving away from a public transit system in the US and over-relying on cars, stats, policy proposals, and so on. A detailed intro for anyone interested in urbanism and the role of transportation.

Islamic Civilization: A Failed Cultural Immune System
Today, the Islamic civilization suffers from what I term a “cultural immune system disorder”, whereby a culture is epistemologically and ontologically ineffective, yet exists as a culture or civilizational body. In the case of Islamic civilization, its current existence is odd one compared to other poles, it seems as though it exists as a dismembered geopolitical body. What makes things even more odd, is the fact that we possess a significant amount of religious or spiritual vitality, albeit to a small degree, and only in some respective pockets. This disorder could perhaps be traced back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with the rise of all forms of inorganic nationalisms. Embodied by the rise of Turkish, Arab and Persian nationalism, and the enforced Sykes-Picot Agreement and Balfour Declaration, this neo-pseudomorphic effect has turned the hatred of the region inward and sown bloodlust amongst the diverse ethnic and religious groups that make up the Islamic-Magian world. The cultural immune system is either overactive and unable to distinguish between ontological enemy and healthy structures of its own civilizational body, as in the case of several reactionary religious or secular governments and movements that have damaged their sociopolitical body instead of defending it. Alternatively, the cultural immune system is underactive as a result of a collective epistemology that has willingly invited Western military adventurism and the forces of neoliberal globalization into their own backyard, and openly embraced the cult of progress failing to comprehend modernity as an anti-cultural force. The current events taking place in Gaza reflect this cultural disorder, as the destruction ensues any attempts to prevent further Israeli progress by the axis of resistance, acting as the immune system, is brought to an end by pro-Western states within their own civilizational body or foreign forces invited by those respective states. On other hand, the enraged Arab and Islamic populace, and diaspora in the West, are rendered ineffective epistemologically and ontologically by the shackles of neoliberalism and modernity with only defective or useless tools of resistance at hand, namely, social media posting and leftist-liberal protests which are only effective within the neoliberal paradigm outside of Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and the rest of the Middle East. It is as if the Islamic world has been dragged into an age of neo-Jahiliya, reverted back to our pre-cultural stage forcibly. The most ironic tendency arising from the Middle East however, is the lack of realization of the eschatological dimension of the current conflict taking place and the fragility of the Islamic civilization. The fact that the Islamic civilization will need a miracle and divine intervention, perhaps in the form of a Messiah or Mahdi, to revitalize and render itself effective is in itself an affirmation of Islamic-Magian eschatology. Spengler argued that although the Jewish nation has anchored itself onto Faustian Western culture, as “European-American world-cities shall have arrived at full maturity, the destiny of Jewry – at least of the Jewry in our midst – will be accomplished”. As Western civilization reaches its maturity, the Jewish nation wandering for two millennia return to their Magian cultural soil and professed Promised Land, fulfilling Jewish eschatological beliefs. The current plans to build the Third Temple, by the religious-nationalist Zionist coalition in Israel, is a clear mobilization of Jewish eschatological beliefs. Spengler additionally asserted, that like some older and more “fellahized” civilizations (China and India), “Islam has soil under it”, meaning it has the potential to revive its primordial spirit if it is capable of unifying its civilizational body. In an eschatological age, that would require an affirmation of Islamic eschatological beliefs, and a spiritual reformation or revival. That is, a revival of the actual form of Islam that would allow for the civilization as a whole to emerge as a pole in an emerging multipolar order.
All in all, the future looks bleak...

One false assumption people make is that if one tradition is destroyed / dies, another will fill its void—no true vacuum. Mayhap nothing will replace what’s lost. Diaspora Muslims in America will lose their parents’ culture, and an American Islam wont emerge either.

Reactions to recent events (including Pezeshkian stating Iran will turn a new page with the UAE) betray how over-simplified politics by people who use the existence of global competition to create a flawed, false notion of warring camps between the powerful and the underdogs. 1/5
Houthis told US officials in an Oman meeting that they won't attack American vessels, Israeli ships, or commercial vessels — only Saudi ones.
This is a notable shift.
Since after the May 2025 ceasefire the Houthis explicitly excluded Israel and kept targeting Israeli-linked shipping.
The meeting included sanctioned Houthi official Mohammad Abdulsalam and Abdelmalik al-Ajri.

If you watch street interviews from even a decade ago asking people what makes America great and unique, everyone regurgitates the ideas of “freedom” and doing whatever you want with your life and pursuing any avenue you wish.
Healthcare? Well, that doesn’t take my freedoms away.
Expenses and housing? If I slave myself away for long, maybe I can afford it.
Education? I don’t have to be educated to be able to speak on any issue I wish.
Myths are carried by a set of elites and then integrated into the masses mimetically. Americans genuinely believed in those ideas and such developed the “American bubble”—the world itself was to be treated in American terms, America being the front and center of everything. To establish a myth, you need to back it up with some reality. But that has shattered now and people can see it for what it is.

The other point is that parenting itself has taken an abysmal turn. Every other parent I see stuffs their child’s face in with an iPad showing over-stimulating videos that renders them vegetables anyway, and these are the tech-obsessed children to whom learning is going to be entrusted—in a society that increasingly disincentivizes learning and outsourcing everything to LLMs. It’s not going to turn out well.

Dan’s hypocrisy re: the situation between Iran and Syria is quite astounding to me because the idea that Iran is an “irrational ideological state” with no capacity for pragmatism is an American-Israeli one. Rafsanjani, Khatami, and Rouhani consistently tried to mend relations with the West, even coming to a point where after the invasion of Iraq, Iran was prepared to normalize relations with Israel due to fears of how swiftly the US could topple the regime. The primary difference is that none of these proposals simply never went through because both American foreign policy re: Iran was irrational and influenced heavily by Israel. The one person who did reach out, Obama, tried to take steps behind Netanyahu’s back and in secret, using the Oman channel, because he knew that any Israeli interference would collapse the deal—when Israel found out, that was precisely the direction it took. Was Iran purely “ideological” when it took the steps it did or was it treacherous?

A Marxian emphasis on material development is absolutely necessary and 90% of the journey before even beginning to opine on spiritual/metaphysical issues. You simply cannot fashion a virtuous public when their norms are shaped by grinding poverty.

Very few people understand how much the “civilisational stock” of the western world was built between 1870-1970, and since then, it’s been been coasting on the exhausted fumes of that civilisational inheritance, extracting without replenishing. Bill’s coming due now.
so let me get this straight. britain in 2026, a "developed", "world leading" country, has hosepipe bans and water parks shut. ministers are now being briefed on banning car washes, window cleaners and refilling swimming pools, gyms included. actual businesses, told to stop trading, because it didn't rain in the SE for two months.
the grid operator has literally just been given approval to run controlled blackouts if it needs to.
we're living off reservoirs, pipes and power lines the victorians and the post-war lot built, and every government since has just collected the bills and skipped the upgrades. so where has all the money gone?
i'm in edinburgh right now. it rained for six hours yesterday without stopping. clearly water isn't the problem. we just never built anything to catch it or move it.
