Narcissists will do anything to destroy the reputation of anyone who can tell the world who they really are.

Human predators (narcissists, psychopaths) with pathological envy ‘study’ their victims with intense ferocity.
They watch who their target interacts with, they track their social media accounts, they observe the way they speak and present and express themselves. They closely study their life choices and lifestyle.
It is the sickest form of obsession.
I hesitate to call it stalking because it’s not stalking in the way we think of stalking.
The objective of the human predator is to delete, cancel, destroy the target of their envy and to BECOME that target.
The predator wants the accolades or the social presence or the qualifications or the lifestyle etc of their pathological envy target and the objective is to destroy the target so they can be them.
The human predator/dark personality starts to copy their target’s wording, their expressions, their life choices. They befriend the friends of the target. They may frequent places that the target frequents. It is incredibly disconcerting for the target.
At the same time they begin to destroy their target’s life. They accuse them of things they haven’t done. They undermine them privately and publicly. They track down people in their target’s life and communicate with them, undermining their target.
The level of false narrative is extraordinary. The brazenness and willingness to enter someone else’s life is next level. The campaign of destruction is relentless.
It’s one of the creepiest and most horrifying experiences.
The hatred of the predator is felt by the target like a blanket of destructive intent. It is palpable and potent. The target fears for their life.
The campaign of destruction has a profoundly unhinged tinge to it.
Every time the target receives an accolade or puts their head above the parapet, the level of undermining and abuse from the predator escalates.
If the target dares to collect information on the predator which demonstrates their predatory nature and behaviours which harm, the undermining and abuse from the predator escalates.
Pure evil.
I presented a real life case study on this at the International Criminal Investigative Analysis Fellowship conference in Georgia last week.

A narcissistic abuse tactic I call “Leapfrogging” is a form of predatory behavior where a narcissist targets someone they envy—often someone who possesses traits, status, or social capital the narcissist lacks or is threatened or envious of.
The malignant narcissist makes a conscious decision to destroy or discredit the target before initiating the friendship or connection. The entire relationship is a setup—an infiltration. They study their target, mimic their behavior, and mirror their values, all while planning their psychological ambush.
The goal is to get close enough to:
- Gain access to personal information, reputation, and influence.
- Undermine trust by spreading subtle lies or planting doubts in others.
- Erode the target’s confidence thru increased criticism
- Hijack the target’s identity or credibility.
Once the narcissist feels they’ve “absorbed” enough value from the target—or sees an opportunity to strike—they flip the narrative. The target becomes the problem: unstable, abusive, selfish, irresponsible, untrustworthy, etc. The narcissist positions themselves as the “true victim” or “better version,” effectively leapfrogging over the target’s social standing.
At its core, this is predatory envy in action—not just wanting what someone else has, but wanting to ruin them for having it.
