Planned by the Boston-based firm @TurkelDesign largely over Zoom, the residential retreat sits comfortably within its rural context.

Why simply walk through a door in a wall when you can flow through it? Walls of sliding-glass make it easy to pass from indoors to outdoors. But more than that, they make the outdoors feel like an extension of the indoors.
When approaching that threshold, the lines are blurred between indoors and out. This is an example of how we create a series of spatial layers in your home that are both experiential and unique to you.

A space can become an experience by evoking emotion. Take the feeling of intimacy for example. In our Axiom 2340 home, you can sit down at the dining table and chat with an old friend. The dining room is part of the great room, but feels distinctly more intimate.
Creating a variety of emotions and experiences through the design of your home offers richness to life. Learn more about how we create these spaces within spaces in our latest blog post: turkeldesign.com/td-blog/des…
As you enter your home, the layers of space can evoke a sense of intrigue, while providing refuge. In this Georgia home, the tall fireplace mass extends through the double-height living room, drawing attention to the upper-level gallery and spaces beyond.
Do you dream about creating a home tailored to how you want to live? Our homes (yes, even our Axiom series) can be customized to suit your needs and wants. Built on the shores of Ontario’s Lake Muskoka, this home used the Axiom 2350 as a starting point.
We worked with our clients to customize the home to suit their goals by adding large operable walls of glass flanking the great room, extending the kitchen to include a double island and butler’s pantry, and more.

You travel across the landscape, enter through the welcoming glass door, and are pulled in by the natural light from the lightwell above. You're finally home. The journey of entering is an experience that takes you through layers of space.
When we design these entry sequences our goal is to progressively bring you from outdoors to indoors, celebrating the feeling of compression and release as you enter into the heart of home. Experience the rest of this home here: turkeldesign.com/town-cove
Sustainable design methods can conserve both energy and resources. What design elements can you incorporate to achieve this? At the Axiom Desert House in Palm Springs, we incorporated an array of solar panels that power the entire fossil-fuel free home.
We set the panels back from the roof’s edges, making them nearly invisible from the ground. The rest of the roof, with its white membrane, reflects the sun’s rays and keeps the house cool in the hot climate. Learn more in this blog: tinyurl.com/h6fkvdmh
If you think a prefabricated house can’t be built on a steep hillside, think again! Our newest blog post tells the story of three of our Axiom house-designs customized to capture the unique experiences of living on three very different hillsides. turkeldesign.com/td-blog/sit…
When Joel and Meelena Turkel customized the Axiom 2110 for their home in Palm Springs, they wanted it to be a “living laboratory” for trying out innovative design ideas—like this padded platform with fully-retractable full-height windows.
