It says something that even the most based populism conceals the proletarian condition. The worst thing imaginable would be to fall into a powerless peasantry (which no longer exists) rather than the potentially powerful working masses who are very real but remain unmentionable
The middle class was a 50-year fluke designed to stop communism during the Cold War. The threat is gone, so the elites are taking it apart. You're not falling behind. You're being pushed back into peasantry.

My new essay on Marxism and artificial intelligence! I show using the negative materialism of semiotics why we should take AGI and AI safety seriously, and also examine this new phase of class struggle through Marx's political economy. cosmonautmag.com/2026/10/mar…

CIA document from 1952 outlines how they embarked on programme to promote right-wing Christian currents to clamp down on what was later called "liberation theology" in Latin America. "The present rather weak and uncoordinated efforts of religious groups to combat Communism should be vigorously reinforced," the CIA noted. "Tremendous advantages to the Western program would ensue if it were possible to persuade all religious groups to unite in a campaign attacking Communism because of the Godlessness inherent in the Marxist doctrine." It continued: "It is therefore vital, if covert activities are to be effective, that they are carefully concentrated where they can accomplish the most". At the time the CIA complained that "its assets as to personnel and covert mechanisms are not capable of covertly supporting many different and wide-spread activities" in Latin America. This soon changed - and support for ultra conservative Christian currents in Latin America continues to this day. One big victim of this operation has been Brazil, where conservative Evangelical and Pentecostal churches have been promoted relentlessly. They were, later, a key element of far-right president Jair Bolsonaro's base - and now his son. The CIA (and MI6) did exact same in West Asia using, in this case, ultra conservative Wahhabis and Salafis as a bulwark against secular nationalism, socialism and anti-imperialism. Nasser in Egypt was the biggest target of all after he nationalised the Suez Canal in 1956 and the resulting UK/France/Israel invasion failed.

I feel like crying over how Saudi executed that young Bangladeshi couple. They have shattered a family through excessive punishment. A aunt of the husband died of a heart attack after hearing about his execution. Evil, pure evil.

"When we try to define a riot people often want to define it in distinction to a strike because it accords to a sense of violence and a certain amount of chaos. I think that's difficult to maintain this distinction because strikes are historically extremely violent and people tend to forget that in the modern era strikes are more associated with a kind of aesthetic downing of tools. Historically, strikes have been quite violent. So I don’t think that distinction works very well. For me, and I draw this distinction largely from E.P. Thomson the historian: a riot is a struggle over the price of market goods. So if you think of the bread riots in 16th, 17th, 18th centuries in the UK, France... all over the world...people are unable to afford to make their way in the world to meet basic subsistence, and so they struggle to make things cheaper. That is what we define as a riot. And when you have the rise of people working for a wage, struggles over how much work is worth, the struggle over the price of labor, that's what a strike is. I think that's an incredibly useful set of distinctions that works very well for a lot of places and for a long period of history but it gets complicated in the recent past, most notably, and I think most obviously because of the category that we've come to call, somewhat uncomfortably, "race riots." Race riots are deeply identified with the United States. The earliest ones in the U.S. were in the late 19th century and they had to do with Chinese laborers who were no longer needed to do labor, and were still hanging around. White populations would often descend on them quite violently. Sometime in the middle of the 20th century, the valence or the direction shifts so that now when people say race riot, they tend to mean a riot started by usually African-Americans or seemingly started by Latino, Latina Americans. But the initiating event, and I think this is by now common knowledge is almost always the police killing of a kid, and the death of that kid and the fact that no one seems to care very much is an expression of a broader immiseration." Look at all those people making zero demands of their government and announcing zero consequences if they are not met. Until our government is terrified of the people, this is meaningless.
