Sorry to tell my Big Ten friends and family… but it’s true. Even a bad day of SEC football beats the heck out of great day of Big Ten football. I grew up going to Spartan Stadium and the Big House. I’ve been to Michigan-Ohio State multiple times. After the first month it’s cold and gray. You pull up, eat a brat, have some drinks, walk like cattle to the stadium… then go home immediately after and thaw out. It doesn’t even come close to tailgating at The Grove or a Saturday night in Tiger Stadium. It’s just more fun… But in fairness, they both beat the heck out of the pro football!
Replying to @SMB_Attorney
The SEC is most certainly THE conference in college football, and it’s not even close.

LETS GO
BREAKING: Congrats to @bedrockqoewill for reaching "holy crap we're busy" phase in less <6 weeks since launch.

I've reviewed dozens of P&Ls for business buyers over the last few years. The pattern is the same every time - Seller says EBITDA is $1.2M. You dig in and get the real story: - Personal expenses buried in COGS. - Revenue that won't recur. - Add-backs that don't add back. The real number is $840K. And you almost paid a 6x multiple on the wrong one. That's what a Quality of Earnings report catches. Today I'm announcing Bedrock. A QoE firm we are building with the great @girdley, @_robyn_smith, @tydeemer, and an incredible CEO in @bedrockqoewill. Will has years of QoE experience at PwC and RSM. He's the real deal. Here's why we built this: Most QoE firms serve the big PE shops that do $50M+ deals. The search fund buyer doing a $2-5M acquisition gets ignored or overcharged. We built Bedrock to fix that. Big firm quality work. Priced for the lower mid-market. Tech that makes the process faster without cutting corners. If you're buying a business, the worst 4 words you can say are "the numbers seem right." Let's get the real number before you close. bedrockqoe.com

I left a cushy corporate job to start something alongside @girdley @baldridgecpa @_robyn_smith @TyDeemer. On paper, things were great. Big 4 background. Years in transaction advisory and quality of earnings work for sophisticated private equity firms. But I wanted more. Ownership, real relationships, and the chance to build something I actually believe in. Now I’m building Bedrock QoE, bringing institutional Quality of Earnings to lower middle market and Main Street buyers, applying the same rigor used for PE firms but tailored to more entrepreneurial deals. Excited to take what I’ve learned and bring it down market, helping people buy businesses and change their lives. If you’re on a similar path, or looking to buy a business, I would love to connect. The craziest thing you learn running a high-priced conference: The number of attendees who wait until the week before to buy tickets. Procrastination is universal.

Summer is over. It's time to hunker down and finish 2025 strong. This is the most powerful thing I've ever read. It should be on a poster in every serious person’s office, gym, etc. Stop what you’re doing and read this… *** A letter from @tferriss's trainer (Coach Sommer) to Tim: “Hi Tim, Patience. Far too soon to expect strength improvements. Strength improvements [for a movement like this] take a minimum of 6 weeks. Any perceived improvements prior to that are simply the result of improved synaptic facilitation. In plain English, the central nervous system simply became more efficient at that particular movement with practice. This is, however, not to be confused with actual strength gains. Dealing with the temporary frustration of not making progress is an integral part of the path towards excellence. In fact, it is essential and something that every single elite athlete has had to learn to deal with. If the pursuit of excellence was easy, everyone would do it. In fact, this impatience in dealing with frustration is the primary reason that most people fail to achieve their goals. Unreasonable expectations timewise, resulting in unnecessary frustration, due to a perceived feeling of failure. Achieving the extraordinary is not a linear process. The secret is to show up, do the work, and go home. A blue collar work ethic married to indomitable will. It is literally that simple. Nothing interferes. Nothing can sway you from your purpose. Once the decision is made, simply refuse to budge. Refuse to compromise. And accept that quality long-term results require quality long-term focus. No emotion. No drama. No beating yourself up over small bumps in the road. Learn to enjoy and appreciate the process. This is especially important because you are going to spend far more time on the actual journey than with those all too brief moments of triumph at the end. Certainly celebrate the moments of triumph when they occur. More importantly, learn from defeats when they happen. In fact, if you are not encountering defeat on a fairly regular basis, you are not trying hard enough. And absolutely refuse to accept less than your best. Throw out a timeline. It will take what it takes. If the commitment is to a long-term goal and not to a series of smaller intermediate goals, then only one decision needs to be made and adhered to. Clear, simple, straightforward. Much easier to maintain than having to make small decision after small decision to stay the course when dealing with each step along the way. This provides far too many opportunities to inadvertently drift from your chosen goal. The single decision is one of the most powerful tools in the toolbox.”

Just two seats remain for @holdcoconf. If we sell out, @tydeemer promised to take me to see Dead and Co. at The Sphere in Vegas. If you or someone you know takes one or both seats, I'll take you to the show with us. And Chili's for lunch -- extra Presidente Margs all around.

.@joinscalepath had its first in-person retreat this week for CEOs scaling themselves and their business. It was an excellent group for a great few days. The best part? @tonybgoode and @TyDeemer made it all happen.
Gotta give a shout-out to @girdley for curating a great group of business owners to connect with and sharpen each other through his ScalePath community. Made great connections and got really helpful feedback to dial in my evolving consulting offer. The biggest surprise was how many of us prioritize our families to build our businesses around.

Buy Then Build is a classic. It’s the manual for entrepreneurship through acquisition. And while it covers all the basics, it also has some nuanced ideas that I’d forgotten! 🧵 (I’m brushing up because we booked Walker Diebel for @holdcoconf 2025!)
