Did you know microbes need vitamins? And they can be picky about which one. Learn more about vitamin B12 and related molecules and how they affect microbes in our review: doi.org/10.1126/science.aba0…

My first, first author paper is out in @ISMEJournal ! Over the past few years in the @UCBTagaLab we have been learning about how soil bacteria share corrinoids, largely thanks to funding from @DOEScience. Here, we got some answers by studying isolates.🧵

Forgot to use #ASMicrobe but come talk to us about soil microbial communities, evolution, and nutrient exchange! ðŸ¦
We have two fantastic postdocs @jananiharan and @ZHallberg at @ASMicrobiology presenting talks and posters!

Congrats to Hazel Anagu on the incredible talk for the NSF RaMP symposium! Catch her at @ASMicrobiology this summer as well as at Tetrapyrroles GRC to learn about nutrient based microbial interactions in soil! 🎉
Congratulations to @BeckyProcknow on a Phenomenal Phinishing talk!!! 🎉🎉🎉 you've really (ribo)switched on our excitement for corrinoids and gene regulation!
Congratulations to NSF RaMP Scholar Hazel Anagu on an amazing talk at @UCBerkeleyMicro Student Symposium!!! 🎉✨

Fresh off the virtual press – new work from @Tagalab with @Zhallberg! A little behind the scenes on the findings and makings of this project:
Vitamin B12 variants structure soil microbial communities despite soil's vast reservoir of B12. biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor… #biorxiv_micrbio
Check out Kenny Mok's experimental evolution of B12 preference here: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… (2/3)
Check out @zoilaialvarez 's work on corrinoid production in soil isolates here: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… (3/3)
we also went on a little butterfly outing 🦋🌟
Replying to @zoilaialvarez
@zoilaialvarez and @BeckyProcknow gave some incredible talks at West Coast Bacterial Physiologists! 🌟

Newly published research led by @AlexaMNicolas—a recent @UCBTagaLab and @Firestone_Lab graduate—combines @banfieldlab techniques for genome-resolved metagenomics to detail the link between soil viruses and greenhouse gas emissions. Read more at @igisci: innovativegenomics.org/news/…
The Taga lab is looking for an undergrad! Project focuses on the role of nutrients in shaping bacterial communities Would be fantastic if yall could help us spread the word or bump the application to anyone who might be interested 🧫🧪🔬🦠💖 urapprojects.berkeley.edu/de…
