Paratroopers on e-bikes. Anti-tank weapons on their backs. In and out before the enemy knows what hit them. This is one way the British Army is training to fight, on exercise on the Canadian prairie. Warfare is changing. So are our Armed Forces.

The UK takes command. 🇬🇧 🇫🇷 Lieutenant General Tom Bateman thanked his French counterpart for his leadership of the Multinational Force-Ukraine (MNF-U) as he assumed command of the Force in Paris. He will continue his French predecessor’s work to prepare a force that can deploy to Ukraine once hostilities end. 🪖 Through air and maritime patrols, and the provision of training to Ukraine’s Land Forces, the MNF-U would give Ukraine the reassurance it needs to reboot its economy and deter future Russian aggression. General Bateman is a highly experienced soldier and former Commander of Standing Joint Force Headquarters. In the coming months, he will oversee exercises that show the force’s ability to act once conflict has ceased – demonstrating the commitment of the UK, France and other Coalition of the Willing leaders to supporting a lasting peace in Ukraine. 🇺🇦 The handover is a planned rotation between the UK and France, as part of both nations’ joint leadership of the MNF-U.
