ICONIC BRITISH BOOKS VISIONARY and EDUCATOR, BORN (and Captain Cook!) Many of us learned to read by using this man's creations, and it was on this day 27 October in 1913, that Douglas Keen, the visionary mind behind the success of Ladybird Books, was born in Cheltenham. He would become the Editorial Director of Ladybird Books, and as such "opened up the world of learning to millions of children." In 1936 he went to work for Wills and Hepworth, a printing firm in Loughborough. Paper shortages in WW2 led the firm to produce the first Ladybird storybooks that could be printed on just one sheet of paper, which was folded and cut to size without waste. This was so economical that it managed to hold the price at two shillings and sixpence (12.5p) for almost 30 years. The aim was always to keep the price within the "pocket money" range of children. It was in 1948, that Keen devised the first factual Ladybird. He made a mock-up of a book of "British Birds and their Nests", with watercolours by his mother-in-law, drawings by his wife and text by himself, and took it to his boss, Jim Clegg. The Nature books were to be the longest-running Ladybird series; and Clegg and Keen steered the company towards educational publishing for which it was to become world famous – including books on British History and a "How it Works" series. "The idea was that they could be stocking fillers, or a birthday gift," Keen said. "Eventually we were able to say that, whatever the subject, there was a Ladybird that would help with the homework." So effective were these books that the Ministry of Defence ordered a shipment of several hundred copies of "The Computer: How it Works" to introduce its employees to higher technology. It also bought copies of "Understanding Maps" to help British soldiers during the Falklands War; and Thames Valley Police bought "How it Works – The Motor Car", to train its officers. Keen died at age 95, on 6 Nov 2008. Also on this day (in Julian Old Style Calendar), Captain Cook, son of a Scottish Labourer and Yorkshire Lass, born in the village of Marton. Cook's birthday is normally quoted in Gregorian New Style, 7 Nov 1728.

STEPHEN FLYNN SAYS "CALL INDYREF2". HERE'S WHY THEY'LL NEVER BE SATISFIED SNP MSP, Stephen Flynn, says that if the Union is worth saving, the Prime Minister should "bring it on" and grant a second independence referendum. Alistair McConnachie explains why that's a trap: win it, and Flynn and John Swinney would demand a third, then a fourth, because the separatist movement can never be satisfied. We made the same point in One Big Country, Volume 1 of the Big Book for the Union. Mr @AndyBurnham is FAIRLY SOUND on IMMIGRATION (IF HIS PARTY WILL LET HIM) "First, in an era of increasing globalisation, free movement has arguably been providing greater benefit to large companies than it has to the most deprived communities. There is nothing socialist about a system of open borders that allows multinationals to treat people as commodities and to move them around Europe to drive down labour costs and create a race to the bottom. "Secondly, there is a strong case for saying that the immigration system that has developed over time in this country is inherently discriminatoryβ€”it does not treat all migrants equally. Instead, it accords a preferential status to migrants from our nearest neighbours in the context of a policy that seeks to cap numbers. That, therefore, discriminates against those non-EU migrants who seek to come here and who have families here. "My call to this side of the House is to put forward a plan that treats all people equally and that applies progressive principles to migration. We need to make the argument for an immigration system that allows greater control and that reduces the numbers coming here, but that does so in a fair way. This would be a system that treats all migrants equally, that does not allow people’s wages to be undercut, as my hon. Friend said, and, crucially, that continues to welcome people from Europe and around the world to work here. Those are progressive principles that can form the basis of a new immigration policy for the left. "It is time for many of us on this side of the House to confront a hard truth: our reluctance in confronting this debate is undermining the cohesion of our communities and the safety of our streets. I am no longer prepared to be complicit in that. We need answers to the public’s concerns, but answers that are based on hope, not hate." Andy Burnham, 7 Dec 2016, Hansard hansard.parliament.uk/Common…
There is nothing socialist about a system of free movement that is used by multi-nationals to undermine wages. WATCH my Brexit speech today.

How much of this is scripted "kayfabe", like in the wrestling. "Peter you play the crazy old bloke who wants all the young people to get killed in Ukraine. Alex you play the reluctant young one, but not too reluctant, since you accept that they will still have to die for Israel." Whatever it is, it got the clicks!

The only way to deal with these people (both the old bloke and the young bloke) is to say that both "Russia" and "Iran" are not our "enemies" and the idea of fighting wars for foreign interests - whether Ukraine or Israel - is absolutely absurd, unacceptable and wrong.

Valuable insight!
WHERE IS THE LOBBY GROUP FOR NATIVE BRITISH? The indigenous majority has no "lobby group" simply because we always thought that was the role of the British Government in the first place! It seems we were wrong, says Alistair McConnachie of A Force For Good (AFFG).

IT IS the SNP and SCOTTISH GREENS which are the PARTIES OF IMMIGRATION AFFG Director, Alistair McConnachie writes: We hear it said that @ReformUKScot and @RestoreBritain are "parties of immigration" - as if the SNP and the so-called Greens are not! It's time to frame the SNP and Scottish Greens correctly. They are parties absolutely centred on immigration - open border immigration! It is part of their core ideology. They may be known for having, respectively, a version of "Scottish identity" or the "environment" as central issues, but they are also focused on mass, unlimited immigration as a means of demographic change. The immigration issue is definitely a central part of their identities! They'll even boast about it. It is not as if Reform or Restore are the only "immigration" parties. The SNP and the Scottish Greens are also parties heavily based on immigration and its related policies. It is just that they have different ways of looking at the matter. It is a core part of their ideology, just as, for example, immigration is a core part of Reform or Restore's ideology. For example, the SNP and Scottish Greens want to speed it up. They want to see demographic change. Reform and Restore want to slow it down, stop it, and reverse it. "THE PARTIES OF IMMIGRATION" The point is, we can't allow it to be said that only Reform and Restore are "obsessed with", or "all about" or "think everything revolves around" immigration. The fact is that the SNP and so-called Greens are very much about those exact things too. For the SNP, and the Greens, immigration is a core part of their political mission. John Swinney is in India, right now, to encourage more Indian immigration into Scotland! The challenge for the SNP and so-called Greens is to explain - in a country of unaffordable rents, worsening infrastructure, declining economic opportunities, and with large numbers of non-indigenous Scots chasing the same minimum wage jobs (and even graduate-entry jobs) - how their open border immigration policies can improve our circumstances and make our lives better. They can't! Let's describe them accurately. It is the SNP and the so-called "Scottish Greens" which are "the immigration parties", because they are FOR open borders, mass immigration, fraudulent asylum, and demographic change. --- Alistair McConnachie, AFFG Director, at Dover 19-7-25 when we launched our definitive book on the matter "Protect our Country: Policies to Stop Mass Immigration"> amazon.co.uk/Protect-our-Cou…

KING ALFRED, DIES πŸ‘‘ The nation of Britain which we know and love today has been a coming together of regal and political unions, but going further back, also tribal and then small kingdom unions. That's why we trace our collective united history right back in time. On this day, 26 October in 899, Alfred the Great, King of Wessex from 871 to his death, passed away. He successfully defended the Kingdom of Wessex (West Saxons) against the Viking attempt at conquest, and by the time of his death had become the dominant ruler in England. He is one of only two English monarchs to be given the epithet "the Great", the other being the Scandinavian Cnut the Great. He styled himself "King of the Anglo-Saxons". He was born in 849 at Wantage, Oxfordshire. He was originally buried temporarily in the Old Minster in Winchester, Hampshire; then, four years later, he was moved to the New Minster. When the New Minster moved to Hyde, north of the city, in 1110, the monks were transferred to Hyde Abbey, along with Alfred's body and those of his wife and children. The Abbey was destroyed in 1539 during the reign of Henry VIII and the church was demolished. The exact location of the graves today has still to be conclusively determined. The photo is Alfred's statue at Winchester, designed by Hamo Thornycroft and erected in 1899.
