It was a pleasure to welcome our Libertas Scholars to @moreheadplanet for dinner and a discussion of "Science and Democracy." Moderated by SCiLL Professor Guy Chet, panelists explored the complex relationship between science, policy, and public opinion, and how these forces shape decisions that impact our everyday lives.
What a great evening at the Carolina Inn! We loved welcoming more than 100 students to our SCiLL minors reception, celebrating the community we’re building together.
As Carolina grows, we want SCiLL to help it feel smaller: a community where students are known, mentored, and given opportunities to flourish.
SCiLL Minor and Libertas Scholar Joe Sciolo recently joined @FoxBizInDepth to highlight the growth of his business, Sportscape Training.
UNC SCiLL Dean Jed Atkins praised Scioli: “Joe Scioli’s visionary work, both inside and outside of the classroom, shows how entrepreneurial leadership can do more than build successful businesses—it can strengthen the fabric of our democracy.”

Civil discourse is a skill every university should help students develop. That's why it's encouraging to see @UNCSCiLL featured in @NRO—and even more exciting to see SCiLL minor and Libertas Scholar Sarah Beth Syfrett leading the conversation 🧵nationalreview.com/corner/th…
At a time when meaningful dialogue often feels in short supply, programs that teach students how to disagree respectfully matter more than ever.
Higher education should prepare graduates not just for careers—but for citizenship.
