Congratulations to #Algeria for assuming the Presidency of the @UN Economic and Social Council (#ECOSOC) for its 2027 Session, with Ambassador Amar Bendjama, PR of Algeria to the UN, elected by acclamation today, by the Council. This role underlines Africa’s dedication to sustainable development and addressing global challenges in line with #Agenda2063. Given that 14 African countries are members of the ECOSOC, this will help increased coordination to promote African interests. Algeria's leadership is expected to improve collaboration with member states to tackle significant global issues, enhancing the African Union's influence in important international discussions.

Nine months after the Sevilla Commitment, at the ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development Follow-Up, we presented the 2026 report, marking the first system-wide assessment of implementation across the UN, IFIs and partners.
Of the 280 actions under the Sevilla Commitment, 115 are already underway through the Sevilla Platform, with many initiatives reporting tangible implementation progress.
The task now is to build on this momentum, deepen cooperation and ensure these commitments continue to translate into real results for people and development.
