The property owner cannot give someone permission to break the law. That’s not the way the law works. Further, unlawful behavior resulting from another’s party’s unlawful behavior is not excusable.

Here: 1) get pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt and try telling the officer that your mechanic said you didn’t have to wear it. 2) imagine a drunk driver telling an officer that the bartender said it was ok for them to drive.

The rules had that race set to finish under the SC, which is precisely why Merc didn’t pit. All motor sports have rules for ending under caution to allow teams to strategize for a competitive finish.

It’s not a 1 lap race. If that’s what you prefer check out NHRA. It’s a team sport of strategy and skill. F1 can’t make up the rules on the fly to create drama and headlines.
