Should Congress look beyond the next 10 years when evaluating health care reform?
In a new JAMA Health Forum Viewpoint, @USCSchaeffer Co-Directors Dana Goldman and Erin Trish argue that major health policy decisions deserve a broader lens. Considering long-term impacts—from patient health and medical innovation to the economy—can lead to more informed policymaking.

At The Hill’s "Getting a Diagnosis ASAP" event, Joe Grogan, Nonresident Senior Scholar at the @USCSchaeffer Institute, discussed the regulatory "mess" delaying Medicare coverage for blood-based Alzheimer’s screenings.
Grogan noted that while Medicare covers tests after symptoms appear, it does not currently cover them for routine annual screening—a delay he argues prevents 8 million beneficiaries from accessing early lifestyle interventions and treatment.

The 340B program was designed to help uninsured patients and poorer hospitals. Poorer hospitals rely on the program yet receive disproportionately little from the program compared to wealthy entities due to its inherently faulty design. Poorer hospitals get less, incentivizes hospital consolidation and drives up federal spending. Recent USC Schaffer report explores the problems with the program and demonstrates that true reform must eliminate "the spread"

Strong new explainer from @uscschaeffer on the out-of-control #340B Drug Pricing Program. The report highlights three structural flaws driving its explosive growth:
🔹 Subsidies tied to spread (not patient need)
🔹 Uninsured and low-income patients often miss the discounts
🔹 A growing share of 340B dollars are captured by for-profit #pharmacies and #PBMs
The report has loads of data and links to excellent resources (including 𝘋𝘳𝘶𝘨 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘭𝘴, of course).
