I admire the strong work by the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber supporting business in the metro, especially American businesses and those who want to work with them.
It was a real pleasure to hear directly from the Chamber during my time in the Eastern Cape. I conveyed to the Chamber the same message that I have delivered elsewhere – to incentivize more U.S. investment, the South African government should address the barriers to American companies in Nelson Mandela Bay and across South Africa.

What a fantastic evening in Gqeberha, celebrating 250 years of the United States - Freedom250!
From business leaders to entrepreneurs to exchange program alumni and local officials, it was a pleasure to catch up with all and discuss opportunities for U.S. investment and partnership throughout the Eastern Cape.
As I shared with our guests, South Africa has the potential to be not just an African economic powerhouse but a global economic powerhouse. The U.S. can contribute to that growth if the South African government resolves barriers to doing business and gives U.S companies the environment to expand.

The Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the decision-making authority for all applications for refugee status in the United States. The U.S. Department of State—including the U.S. Mission in South Africa—and RSC Africa do not make refugee-status decisions.
⏳ There is no guaranteed processing timeline. USCIS case review and security vetting continue until a refugee arrives in the United States. This means a case status may change—even shortly before travel—because of new information, new adjudication requirements, or other factors.
Applicants should plan for long processing periods and possible changes in case status.
If USCIS finds an applicant ineligible for continued resettlement processing, RSC Africa and the U.S. Embassy or Consulates in South Africa cannot change the decision or provide additional information. There is no appeal process for these findings.

I met with Dhundup Gyalpo, the Dalai Lama’s representative for Africa, and heard firsthand of the terrible attack against the Office of Tibet on October 14, the second attack in three months. I strongly condemn this apparently politically motivated attack, which fits a broader pattern of transnational repression against Tibetans worldwide. I also express my full support to the Office of Tibet and my expectation that the South African authorities expeditiously find, arrest, and hold to account the perpetrators.
