ALT UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA, TWIN CITIES – Yesterday, the Undergraduate Student Government passed a resolution calling for the University of Minnesota and Teamsters Local 320 to swiftly reach a just and equitable contract agreement as negotiations resume and a potential strike looms. The resolution, which passed through USG’s legislative forum with overwhelming approval (43-2) and 15 student group co-sponsors, affirms undergraduate support for essential contract provisions: A minimum wage of at least $20/hr for all Teamsters university workers, An increase in pay for Teamsters at the top of the pay scale, A cost of living increase for Teamsters to account for the rate of inflation, Guaranteed 12-month appointments for all workers in dining services, to prevent temporary worker layoffs which bar access to unemployment benefits and limit income opportunities.
