The current US military buildup in the Middle East theatre is likely a plot by Trump to cancel the US midterm election.
He has 2 options, neither of them good.
1. Start a limited ground war and declare war measures for a pretext to cancelling the election.
2. Increase the buildup right up to election day and hope the Iranians will somehow surrender.
