NCDC Approves ₦100,000 Weekly Payment For People Isolated Over Ebola Outbreak
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has approved an emergency payment of ₦100,000 per person weekly to support people isolated or quarantined over the Ebola outbreak in the Federal Capital Territory.
NCDC Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, disclosed this during a press briefing on Sunday, explaining that the support became necessary after some contacts complained about the cost of feeding, accommodation and maintaining their families while under monitoring.
“We are paying for their accommodation; we are paying for their feeding. Some of them are asking for a stipend to maintain their families,” Idris said.
He added that the agency was providing ₦100,000 per person weekly to cover their basic needs during isolation.
“This was not planned for, but it is an emergency. We will continue to review it as we go along,” he said.
Idris stressed that the responsibility should not rest solely on the FCT, urging other states to prepare the necessary funding and logistics for similar emergencies.
“This is not the responsibility of the FCT alone. What we have to do for the FCT, we have to do for any other state, just in case,” he added.
Nigeria had recorded one confirmed Ebola case at the time of the briefing, involving a woman who travelled from Uganda to Abuja. The case was confirmed on October 20, with 53 primary contacts identified for monitoring.
The NCDC said contact tracing and health surveillance were ongoing, with contacts monitored throughout the 21-day incubation period following their last possible exposure.

solana:5vicJEyYTDBqMsKe74vWQeDVMe5cmeA3vr1AT8RXb9t1 will be the biggest epidemic and closely follow covid in the coming months. It won’t be a pandemic - but will cause lockdowns and fear.
Its high mortality rate at 50% is enough to spook any normal person. It can go undetected up to 21 days. That a silent carrier - enough to get someone that’s a carrier to a new part of the world.
Many places aren’t as prepared like Africa to handle this virus. Take the Kenyan as an example. He was able to mask his symptoms through airports and made it through to Kenya while contaminating other airports (which is theory on how Nigeria patient got sick).
Ebola will eventually escape Africa. It’s already bleeding beyond DR Congo borders. The current trajectory is on track to be worse than any other Ebola outbreak before it. No vaccine exists and trials can take months.
The patient in Nigeria went to Switzerland now. Chances spreading outside Africa just increased. If you watched the video of them bording the plane, no one is wearing PPE to handle that patient. Concerning!
More than 50 people are under watch in Nigeria and it seems like every day new cases are popping up. Sadly the quarantine and airport detections that just started yesterday are a little late. Something probably escaped and is going to show up in a place that is not prepared to contain this.
It’s a silent spreader until it’s too late. Congo can contain while they have it because they deal with this and are familiar. But even three healthcare workers in Kenya got sick and that shows that even an African country who should be prepared to handle Ebola still make mistakes with PPE, quarantine and exposure.
If other bordering countries don’t handle it well, how do you think other West countries will ?
The West isn’t prepared for a case to show up in their area and once it shows up - it’s all over the news and media will be talking about.
I’m holding this because I have a background in immunology and microbiology. I’ve studied these and work in healthcare. Sadly, I see this as being the main news story in coming weeks and for months. It’s like buying a Covid meme coin if pumpfun eco existed during lockdowns. Imagine holding the narrative coin that everyone talks about.
Can’t believe it’s under 100k still as most people in this ecosystem can’t see narratives before they become the main character. Most will chase it vs. positioning now into the biggest narrative over coming months.
