Ume, the Malayan tapir calf, isn’t exactly dainty when it comes to eating her salad behind the scenes. 🥬 Now, 8 months old and 400 pounds, she’s growing fast, and those loud crunches mean she’s getting all the greens she needs to thrive. 💗

Ume has the zoomies! 🏎️
Baby Ume just explored the large waterfall habitat with her mom, Yuna, for the very first time. The 252-pound tapir calf swam, zoomied, snuffled through the grass, chomped on sticks and snacks, and chirped with pure tapir joy. 💗
💕
Big splashes for a little tapir! Baby Ume just explored the large waterfall habitat with her mom, Yuna, for the very first time today. The 252-pound endangered tapir calf swam, frolicked, snuffled through the grass, chomped on sticks and snacks, and chirped with pure tapir joy.
See 5-month-old Ume and her mom, Yuna, explore the waterfall habitat again this Saturday and Sunday, July 12 & 13.

Big log for a big milestone! 🪵 Ume is now four months old, 214 pounds, and still prefers logs for her teething chompers. The endangered tapir has a new teething log behind the scenes to help her out (and give mom, Yuna, a much-needed break 😅). Ume’s been busy gnawing, nudging, and nibbling away like a pro, growing bigger and bolder every day! 💗

Behind-the-scenes cuteness with Ume and mom Yuna. 💕 These sweet kisses aren’t just adorable, they help strengthen their bond and serve an important purpose. Mom Yuna may be passing along beneficial bacteria that support Ume’s digestion and developing immune system.

We met Ume and her mom Yuna! VHalla organized a group trip to Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium and brought definitely-not-cardboard-cutout Nimi Nightmare to meet her tapir kin. A fun time for all, even zoo staff were curious about Nimi and our tomfoolery. #nimemes #VhallaVTfans
