This "dynamic pricing" stuff, and secondary-market algorithms wreck the atmosphere in stadiums too. Not only does it price real fans out, it's solely about making the absolute most money—even if that means selling, say, 80 seats instead of 100. Which leads to empty seats.
Professional sports leagues have raised ticket prices to the point that the average fan cannot afford to attend, especially as a family. They also compete with an in-home product that is vastly improved. Regionally, salaries aren’t as high in this market as others. Lots of reasons but the bottom line is people do have to choose between entertainment, gas and groceries and that’s just a fact. It’s not
a lack of passion. It’s practicality. I never felt comfortable telling someone else what to do with their money.

Everyone is mad at “the secondary market” for US Open prices, but look at this chart.
Primary and secondary supply for the Aug. 27 session at Ashe have risen and fallen together for three straight months. Same timing, same shape. That suggests inventory is being distributed through both channels.
I’m all for it. Open Distribution is largely a good thing. More channels to distribute tickets means more ways for organizers to reach buyers and more places for fans to shop.
But if that’s what’s happening, the USTA should be more transparent about it. The narrative being driven by Bill Ackman and Mayor Mamdani treats the secondary market like an outside force acting on the US Open, when the data suggests it’s likely part of the distribution strategy itself.

Bonnaroo will not take place in 2027 and the festival is officially taking a fallow year — with plans currently being put in place for a return in 2028.
Official Festival Statement:
To our Bonnaroo Family, THANK YOU for an epic Bonnaroo 2026. Our hearts are filled to the brim from the weekend that we shared in June. The Farm remains as special as ever, and for a few days, we were once again reminded of the good things in this world.
As you know, we spent a great deal of effort and money working to improve the campgrounds and Centeroo in the months leading into the 2026 festival. That included improved drainage, 4.5 miles of new roadways, and 135 acres of new grass, all which strengthened The Farm’s resiliency to Mother Nature. With limited time to recuperate from back to back years of storms, including the heavy rainstorm on Sunday this year, The Farm, particularly the main venue, needs a break to rest and recover.
So, here’s what we’ve decided: Bonnaroo will be taking a much-needed year off in 2027. This wasn’t an easy decision, and not one we take lightly, but in our hearts, we know this break will only make Bonnaroo better.
We hope you’ll continue radiating positivity in your community throughout the year and thank you for loving this festival as much as we do.
Love,
The Bonnaroo Team ❤️

Ticketmaster: “You’re 12,000th in line.”
45 minutes later:
“You’re in!”
$99 ticket → $246.
At that point you're not buying a concert ticket.
You're paying ransom for the privilege of sitting in section 312.

My Chemical Romance who had absurd pricing to start this tour dynamically lowered this show.
$8.61 is the new face value.
$21.29 for the service fee.
So service fees cost more than +200% than the actual band / promoter gets?!?!?

Yesterday's FIFA ticket shenanigans
1) Unexpected resale block for Iraq-Norway 80 minutes before match time. All tickets for $287.50.
2) A few tickets snapped up within minutes.
3) Empty block visible in stadium, then filled with FIFA volunteers in yellow when game began

We have the smoking gun. An event promoter holding back and then dumping never sold tickets as "resale" to manipulate prices.
Journalists! this is a HUGE story.
I received an interesting update to my post about FIFA dumping inventory onto 3rd-party resale platforms from an expert industry insider:
"One thing you didn't notice/mention in your Seatgeek tweet, is those seats are marked as INSTANT DELIVERY. Not just "In-Hand Now". [...] These listings from FIFA show up on Seatgeek as "Instant Delivery" meaning, the tickets are instantly deposited into the buyer's FIFA account directly. No transfer required.
So when you click on "Show Instant Delivery Only" on Seatgeek on the various matches, it will instantly show you all the listings that are from FIFA directly.
They have been listing Cat 1 for M4, the high row 200-levels, on Seatgeek for several weeks now at $1,300ish (face value $2,735). Also instant delivery. And if you zoom into those sections on FIFA marketplace, none of those were ever posted there. Because they were never sold."

Yesterday available FIFA inventory suddenly dropped from 74k to 30k tickets.
It's the post-Covid US ticketing model:
1) start with high prices
2) slowly release inventory
3) occasionally remove supply
4) steer seats to hospitality
5) only cut prices if absolutely necessary

At least 80K tickets were released in FIFA's ticket drop yesterday, more than tripling FIFA-direct availability to 115K+ seats, per TicketData.
The actual release was likely larger, since that figure reflects remaining availability observed roughly 6 hours after the drop.
Surprisingly, about 1/3 of the release appears to have already sold.

A lot of people don't realize the ways in which event promoters and sports teams are manipulating ticket supply through the sale and resale markets in ways that did not used to be possible.
The whole notion of periodic "ticket drops" should get you asking questions.
We are saddened and heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion and one of our sport's greatest and fiercest drivers. He was 41 years old.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Busch family, Richard Childress Racing and the entire motorsports community.
