Nanoplastics. A Systematic Risk Analysis for Human Health, Ecosystems, and the Environment allatra.org/global-research-… The relevance of the study is driven by the unprecedented global accumulation of micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) in the biosphere and the change of their physicochemical properties as they transition to micro- and nano size. Upon fragmentation, synthetic polymers cease to be merely inert macro-waste and acquire the properties of dispersed, physicochemically active particles, for which the role of specific surface area, adsorption capacity, interfacial interactions, and electrokinetic characteristics increases. This enhances the likelihood of their interaction with biological barriers, biomolecules, cells, and tissues. #SundayVibes #ScienceFacts

Rare September Nor’easter Hits the US | Massive Coastal Flooding Flooded streets, eroded beaches, and widespread power outages were the aftermath of a powerful nor’easter that struck the northeastern United States on September 25, 2026. These storms along the eastern coast of North America usually develop in late fall and winter, making the September event unusual: fewer than two percent of such storms occur during this month. 🌏 Climate events are increasingly occurring outside their usual seasons and exceeding the ranges experts are accustomed to. This makes thorough preparation more important than ever, including planning for unexpected developments. This is essential both for emergency services responsible for public safety and for the experts who study these phenomena.

Hurricane Lowell Hits Hawaii | Massive Waves and Widespread Destruction 🔴 youtu.be/ZMU1nQXbvWk Hurricane Lowell formed in the eastern Pacific Ocean on August 27, 2026. As it moved westward, it twice reached Category 5 intensity before weakening as it approached Hawaii. On the night of September 8, it passed west of the island of Niihau as a Category 2 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of approximately 109 mph (175 km/h). The situation in the Hawaiian Islands illustrates how dangerous natural events can affect regions where they were previously extremely rare or had never reached such intensity. This is not a reason to live in fear, but it is a compelling reason to prepare for possible extreme weather and assess risks realistically. Understanding what is happening and having a plan of action in advance can help people remain calm, act clearly and decisively in a critical situation, and increase their chances of a favorable outcome. #Climate #Weather

International Cooperation in Practice Global challenges cannot be addressed by any one institution, profession, or country alone. Effective solutions require cooperation among researchers, public authorities, universities, civil defense specialists, and local communities.

Nanoplastics as a New Systemic Risk | ALLATRA GRC Report • Why nanoplastics cannot be treated simply as a scaled-down version of plastic waste • How particle size affects their physicochemical properties • How nanoplastics interact with proteins, cell membranes, and biological barriers • What we currently know about their presence in the environment and the human body • Why investigation of the electrical properties of nanoplastics can become one of the core trends for future research • What scientific challenges we must overcome to accurately assess risks and find effective solutions The report is available for free public access under the CC BY 4.0 license, allowing it to be used for scientific, educational, and public awareness purposes with proper attribution. 42 Tornadoes in One Day: The Midwest Faces an Unprecedented Outbreak On June 11, 2026, the central United States was struck by a new wave of dangerous extreme weather. This was not an isolated event, but a regional outbreak of severe storms and tornadoes that affected multiple states simultaneously, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri. According to the National Weather Service, at least 42 tornadoes were confirmed. Notably, tornado activity across the Midwest in 2026 has followed a highly unusual pattern. In Illinois, where an average of about 54 tornadoes are recorded annually, a combined total of 145 tornado reports and confirmed tornadoes had already been recorded by June 14, 2026. The state became the national leader in tornado activity, surpassing even traditionally tornado-prone states such as Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, and Alabama. This situation highlights significant changes in the geographic distribution and seasonal patterns of tornado activity. As weather risks continue to evolve, it is becoming increasingly important for the scientific community and emergency management agencies to study emerging climate patterns and improve preparedness measures to help protect communities and critical infrastructure. #ClimateReport

ALLATRA Civic Platform New York hosted a community event at Civic Hall on April 23: “Micro- and Nanoplastics: Impact on Animals and Nature.” The event brought together scientists, researchers, and New York City residents for an open discussion on the growing impact of micro- and nanoplastics on living systems. The presentation drew from the documentary Nanoplastics: A Threat to Life and the report Nanoplastics: A Systematic Risk Analysis for Human Health, Ecosystems, and the Environment, released by the ALLATRA Global Research Center. Stay tuned to ALLATRA New York for more upcoming community events. ▪️Full press release: allatra.org/press-release/al… #GoodTuesday #Game4
