🧵on Toronto's election last night. Olivia Chow was re-elected for a second term as mayor in a resounding victory in what appears to be a historic number of votes. thestar.com/news/gta/olivia-… via @TorontoStar

John Tory said Olivia Chow, as an incumbent, should have won by more.
He didn’t say Chow got more votes tonight than any Toronto mayor ever, including Tory (3 times) #TorontoVotes2026
Quick election thoughts:
- Twitter isn’t real life.
- Calling Toronto a “wasteland” & trying to scare people while crime rates decline, didn’t work.
- Bring Islamophobes into Brad’s campaign & then tepidly denouncing them when called out, bad strategy.
- This is a huge mandate.

she beat him by 13 points and received the largest raw vote share in the city’s history, some would qualify that as trouncing her challenger and not just merely staving him off
Olivia Chow re-elected mayor of Toronto, staving off challenger Brad Bradford

Important metric that is also thoroughly humiliating to right wing Canadian larpers

Another stat for the nerds:
563,124 votes were cast in total in Toronto's last regular mayoral election in 2022 (ie. not a by-election).
532,201 votes were cast for Olivia Chow alone in 2026.

Olivia Chow is now the most successful singularly elected politician in Canadian history - Bradford LOST by 13 points - more than 130,000+ votes - but gets the lead on the headline like he almost did it? thestar.com/news/gta/brad-br…

Pretending that Carney supporters would support the son of the fascist who tried to do a coup after he lost an election is really quite shit, even for Christo

Lobbyist takeover of Toronto city hall fails, Olivia Chow re-elected with 54% support, 523,000 votes
That’s about 50,000 more votes than any winning Toronto mayoralty candidate ever, probably more than any other Canadian politician ever

Mainstreet went 1 for 6 on their ward polls. Some of these aren't even close. It's amazing how bad riding-level polling is in Canada. They should probably stop doing it.

A useful reminder that Polymarket is not a poll, and it is not a probabilistic forecast - it is pool of predominantly young men placing bets based on those things.
Free. Fall. I’ve never seen anything like this. You MIGHT imply the ‘25 Federal Election was like this - that’s a faulty narrative. LIB/CPC lead was back in Liberal favour by early February - a month after Trudeau quit. #Toronto
This is a choke. It’s incredible.

My sincere congratulations to @oliviachow on her decisive victory tonight (and her graciousness in that victory).
I'm excited about what the next four years have in store!
I'll have more to say regarding the local races tomorrow; going to get some rest for now.

Tonight, the people of Toronto have spoken.
And you have given me the extraordinary honour of continuing to serve as your mayor.
I am grateful. I am humbled.
And I am so proud of our city.

More people voted for Olivia Chow to be mayor than Albertans voted to separate from Canada.
Noise on social media is just that: noise. These people get followers, RTs, but their genuine influence, the issues they complain about are not real.

The conservative takeover of Toronto city hall, which many had predicted, did not go as planned. Olivia Chow wins a decisive victory over Brad Bradford and returns to power, for her first full 4-year term, at the head of a more progressive council thestar.com/news/gta/city-ha…
