But how are Trump's tariffs about fairness when the calculation is (US trade deficit / imports from that country / 2)? It's one thing to match the actual tariffs other countries put on the US, but that's not the case. The “reciprocal” tariffs target US trade deficits. Saying that this response is about fairness assumes that any trade deficit is caused by systemic unfairness (what is this, critical trade theory?)

Preliminary analysis of the crash of flight 5342 today suggests a possible factor might have been the helicopter pilot accidentally looking at AAL3130, a larger plane landing behind 5342, on a different approach but visually close and possibly brighter than the closer, smaller 5342.

In 1992, Pennsylvania law automatically suspended your driver’s license for three months for a first time underaged drinking offense, even though the offense itself was expunged. I didn’t have a DL then, b/c I grew up in Manhattan. Turned out they had reserved the right to suspend it when I did apply for one.
Only when I got my DL, in 1996, I did so in the state of NY. So they never got to deliver the suspension.
HOWEVER, after 9/11 the federal government passed a law harmonizing state DL databases. Didn’t matter in NYS. But when I moved to DC, the unserved suspension popped up.
Unfortunately by then I’d already purchased a car, which I was unable to register until the matter was resolved.
