A Special Thank You to Elizabeth and Aubrey!
Their leadership is instrumental in ensuring the delivery of essential services and resources to Utah's legal community while providing thoughtful and effective oversight of the Bar's operations. Their professionalism, sound judgment, and tireless efforts help ensure that the organization operates efficiently, responsibly, and in furtherance of its mission.
The breadth of their responsibilities, much of which takes place behind the scenes, requires extraordinary coordination, accountability, and dedication. Their ability to navigate complex demands while maintaining a steadfast commitment to serving licensees and supporting the administration of justice is deeply appreciated.
We encourage all Bar licensees to plan and take part in events during the National Celebration of Pro Bono. We support pro bono work that connects communities with free legal services and recognizes the attorneys who give their time to serve others. You asked. We answer.
Think of an appeal as a review, not a do-over.
Utah’s appellate courts—the Utah Court of Appeals and Utah Supreme Court—review the record created in the lower court and consider the legal issues raised on appeal.
The judges examine the record and written arguments from the parties and, in some cases, hear oral argument. Their job is to determine whether the law was applied correctly and whether an identified error was significant enough to affect the case.
Appellate decisions also help interpret Utah law and provide guidance for courts, attorneys and the public in future cases.
