🚨 Israel is preparing for a historic trial of Hamas terrorists involved in the October 7, 2023 massacre. Israel has reportedly chosen Zhanna Modzgrishvili, the country’s former chief military prosecutor, to lead the prosecution. She served in the IDF for 22 years. More than 400 suspects are expected to face trial before a special military tribunal being established in Jerusalem. Instead of holding one massive trial, prosecutors plan to examine the crimes separately, including the massacres in Be’eri, Nir Oz, at the Nova music festival, and other locations attacked on October 7. The first indictments are expected in the first half of 2027, but the trials themselves could continue for years. One particularly significant detail is that the legislation provides for the possibility of the death penalty for certain serious crimes. It also includes restrictions on releasing those convicted under the law as part of future prisoner exchange deals. Most defendants are expected to participate in hearings by video link from prison, while victims’ families will be able to follow the proceedings.
