I moved from Ghana to the U.S at 13. I got to celebrate my 14th birthday here and keep growing. Javits deserved to keep growing too.
It’s taken me so long to write this because nothing feels enough. My heart hurts.
We deserve to grow up without constantly looking over our shoulders. Bullying is not “kids being kids.” No child should have to be brave just to get through a school day.

As a fellow Ghanaian, this breaks my heart. It’s sad that so many of us have to leave our families and everything we know behind just to find opportunities and build a better life. Families sacrifice everything to send one person to America, hoping that person will succeed and eventually help everyone back home.
What hurts even more is that he came here hoping to make a better life for himself and his family, yet it took losing his life for his family to receive the overwhelming love, financial support, and help they’re receiving now. 💔
I pray that one day, even if I’m not alive to witness it, Africa becomes a place where our people can prosper without feeling forced to leave home in search of a better future.
