💿 “Helen Wheels”: la Land Rover di Paul e Linda diventa una canzone
Il 26 ottobre 1973 usciva nel Regno Unito “Helen Wheels”, il singolo di Paul McCartney & Wings che anticipava di alcune settimane l’album Band on the Run. Il titolo era il soprannome dato da Paul e Linda alla loro Land Rover.
Il brano racconta un viaggio dalla fattoria scozzese dei McCartney verso Londra, trasformando il tragitto in un rock dal ritmo incalzante. Nel testo scorrono località come Glasgow, Carlisle, Liverpool e Birmingham: una sorta di versione britannica delle canzoni americane “on the road”.
Il singolo raggiunse il 12º posto nel Regno Unito e il 10º negli Stati Uniti e fu inserito nell’edizione americana di Band on the Run su richiesta della Capitol, che riteneva la presenza del successo utile alle vendite dell’album. L’edizione britannica uscì invece senza il brano.
