Oh hey there @HomeDepot #fees in my #receipts 👋 I've been analyzing all my receipts in @Veryfi 's Vault and yeah this will be fun to unpack.. WTF is a CA LBR FEE? The California Lumber Products Assessment is a 1% fee applied to the selling price of lumber and engineered wood products purchased for use in California - Thanks @CAgovernor ! Environmentally friendly fee? Nah "Sustainable Forestry" is a thing so the lumber comes from forests grown and managed for this purpose. Which is why lumber is so sucky ( teapawt.net/semerda/status/1813009… ) these days and warps so easily.. it's grown fast and the rings on your lumber are the 1st indicator of this short cut. Here's a rabbit hole to go down... The "4x4" you buy today is not a 4x4, it's more like 3.5 x 3.5. Fun times!

Latest trend around Fuel prices in #California (Silicon Valley). Eek! 🧐 (my top 2 ⛽️ are @Shell & @Chevron ) @CAgovernor Government-imposed fees and taxes combined is at 45% of the total price per gallon. Nationally, the average gas tax accounts for only about 8.7% of the retail price. When transport costs are high so is everything else that needs to travel from source (manufacturer / supplier) to destination (retail). Fun times!

I analyzed 10+ years of my own fuel receipts from California (yes, I hoard them 😅) and the trend is alarming. We went from ~$2.60/gallon in 2014 to $5+ today in California. The "new normal" crept up on us so gradually that we barely noticed we're paying DOUBLE.
