It is rumored that Chief Alan Brunacini added this question to the job application for the Phoenix Fire Department: "Are you an asshole?" Then, if later the hiree in fact turned out to be an asshole, he was fired for lying on his job application.

Today, we had a crew get caught in a flashover. The Battalion Chief was the last one out, only after making sure the other three were out first. Despite 28 years of education, I can't really define the word leadership, but I know it when I see it.
